Umm, I was thinking this bit:
And probably more of a burr issue - or a lack of correct de-burring during production.

That sounds quite possible, and that would require a new coupling gear. Where could I order parts for an SH4131 movement? Or a new movement?

Not necessarily - it might just involve a deft bend with tweezers to align it properly so it catches it's detent correctly and then to de-burr the top of the main plate/ under-side of the lever so that the lever can traverse it's full extent of travel correctly. The work of a few minutes for a watchmaker.

In terms of getting a replacement 4131 I have no idea other than to throw yourself at the mercy of the TD and ask for a new movement - or to brave the lions of AliExpress - where you might get one for a couple of hundred GBP's.

Thank you very much for the photo of the spring 316lad.

I don't know who's who here, and who knows their stuff. But the way you've answered this thread has impressed me.

So much so that you have given me back my hope that the watch can be repaired. I'm going with my original plan to take your advice and seek out a new watchmaker.

I, personally stay away from Chronos and from 7750 and Chinese clone movements as well.
If this was an ETA, Sellita, Seiko or Miyota-powered watch, it would be a non-issue.

Good to hear. No reason why that watch can't give you years of good service after a quick look under the bonnet.
I always think it rather a pity that - just for the sake of a little extra care and attention on the production line these movements grind to a halt and the watch is binned by an unhappy owner when so easily they can be made to be almost as good as the real thing.

I believe our members here have given great advice.

While I understand your desire for it to be a good working watch, these watches are made at a fraction of a price of the genuine.
I will caution you that this will certainly not be the last time a replica watch will cause issues. Thankfully, the watch is working and can be fixed.

I highly recommend a more reduced and realistic expectation for your next watch.

Others have not had such luck.

As others have said, do not buy a replica chronograph unless you plan to have it serviced by a competent and known replica watchmaker. Most watchmakers shy away from replicas and give you the runaround for them.

I hope it gets fixed quickly and may you enjoy it!

Thank you for understanding my desire for the watch to work when new from the factory.

I see how unrealistic I am and consider myself lucky to have received anything in the mail, after all these watches are made at a fraction of a price of the genuine.

Expectations lowered.

How apropos for my handle to change from "still new" to "getting to know the place" with that last post.

I just read the entire thread and wish you all the best @Orygun! I know it's frustrating and disheartening to receive anything that is not working as it should, regardless of the price you have paid. If I knew a minuscule amount about watchmaking or servicing, I'd have you send it to me to repair. I sure hope that you can have this issue resolved as I have a Daytona in the mail, heading my way. I know that it's a rep, but you still wish for it to work as intended. Best of luck and please, keep us posted.

You live in Canada, I do as well. I had a sub that stopped working completely shortly after 6 months. I took it to a guy in my home town. A “watch guy (a professional)” told me it would take 6 months to look at it and “possibly” source the broken items… Told me it would cost the same as a new watch. RWI is a wealth of knowledge. These people on here… replica’s that’s their thing. On here they pointed me to @dogwood . Which someone has already done for you. I sent him the watch, he fixed it. I had the watch back in less than 2 weeks. I was a little pissed as I’m sure you are that it broke. I thought “ this is supposed to be a high end replica” lol . But that’s what they are replica’s. I am still looking at getting another one, since its pretty cool to have some watches that I could never afford if they weren’t reps. Wishing you the best in your replica adventure. Lots to learn for the both of us it sounds like.

Would you feel more or less pissed if the watch was broken when you first took it out of the box, rather than six months down the road?

What people seem to misunderstand about me is that I know very well that mechanical watches all eventually need repair. That being said, I have a number of cheap Chinese mechanical watches that have run great for years. In fact not one of the three Aliexpress-DHGate caliber watches ($50-$120) that I've purchased has given me any trouble at all. They all keep great time too! So I know that the Chinese can make a quality movement.

I just asked factory and maybe sending back just the movement will be a better choice

I recently sent my watch back to China for a repair, Puretime did excellent job and fixed the issue as it was under their warranty. It did take about 4 months, but again everyone knows patience is key in everything or you will drive yourself crazy!!

The Daytona is a very complex watch and if it was me I would just not worry about it as I would never use the Chronos anyway.
