The gen DW will have to be glued on top of the 2824 DW and for all intents and purposes will become a DWO. The 2824 DW used as a base does not matter, it can be a gen ETA DW, a rep ETA DW, whatever. If it's a rep ETA DW, it likely already has a rep ROLEX DWO glued on that will be removed first.
The gen DW has a very different shape than a rep ROLEX DWO primarily because it has teeth. It's also going to be thicker because it normally functions as a DW and needs to be thick enough to be pushed into position by the date finger. Some modding will undoubtedly be necessary to make it work in a 2824, which has much less clearance between a DWO and the backside of the dial than a 2836 does. Also, the motion works cover has a screw on it that needs to be cleared by the DWO.
Some mods that may be performed to make a gen DW work as a 2824 DWO include:
Removal of rep DWO
Sanding down the ETA DW
Sanding down the underside of the gen DW
Cutting off the teeth from the gen DW
Adding a dial spacer to the underside of the dial to provide more clearance
