They look good. Don't let the elitist elements fool you... shopping on Canal can be a lot of fun.

The Omegas look good. I was there about a year ago. Lots of fun looking for and bargaining for watches.

I actually live in NYC, and bought my first Reps on Canal. Soon aftre this experience i found this website and discovered to my horror that my $40 rep "PAM" was utter garbage. I also discovered that my B&R Rep was very good for a rep, and during my next visit, training from RWI clearing my eyes to flaws, and the addiction to Reps feeding the need for perfection, i discovered that on Canal street, patience can actually yeild quite good results.
Thank you RWI, but do not sleep on Canal street.

Yep,. the Pams, while in the plenty....are horrible! They look....just so bad. I looked at everystand and even found the "infamous" benny who seems to run everything via walkies. These were from the the stands near BKing.....they seem to have the "best". The omegas are cool.....and kind of give me a taste to see if i want the real (rep) thing. hehe.

Just curious, what exactly is Canal St? Is it an actual street with rep stands or is it a wholesale district? Live on the West Coast so I would never make it there but it sounds like reps are being sold on street corners.

And you live in USA ? I am from The Netherlands and know exactly where to find Canal Street. Next tim your USD is up buy a ticket and visit NYC. You will have a great time. Google Earth will show you the way.

I paid about 45 a peice, maybe a couple dollars less...Its decent, I kind of think its not a bad base to build on, or just get wrist time. The tags number on the bezel are coming off, so I actually just walked in from the garage from polishing it completley off, the braclet is soaking.....Close to Burgerking is the key! Right near the ATM!

Laffyette...I think.

However, this "mailorder" stuff is (from what I can tell) is better, as long as its from the vendors here. Im a noob though, what do I know?!

Your problably right. The stuff that makes it to the street is usually the lower end.

I was there about a month ago, and while I wasn't able to locate Bennie (at least I don't think I did), I did find the best stuff by starting at the NE corner of Lafayette & Canal and walking East along the north side of the street towards the BK. There's a another BK elsewhere on Canal on the south side of the street, but didn't see anything of interest there. I was only versed in PAM reps at the time, and there were some decent ones for the money. I saw 111s and 183s with swan neck regulator movements. I'd generally be quoted $85-100, but then they'd be wiling to drop the price to $75. Here's an example of an 111E I got:

Dial is an incorrect sandwich dial as opposed to sausage. You can get 111H's with the correct case back, sandwich dial, and "swiss made" below the 6, but the crossbar on the "A"s on those reps are noticeably lower, and it's something that really annoys the crap out of me. Has recessed cannon pin, crown on the thin side, hands have some lume, crappy numeral lume, and mineral crystal.

Here's the back. Has the swan neck regulator, "officine panerai" type is a bit wavy, but gets the job done.
