Can an AD spot a rep at first sight?

Exactly t_b, it's just plain rude.
I suppose the closest I can come is parking your Ferrari kit car on the forecourt of the Ferrari dealership and expecting respect. Even then it'd not as bad because you kit car probably doesn't have Ferrari badges on it.

The same applies to posting reps on gen fora, it's an insult and if it's one of our mob I have to track over there and apologise once again to the admin/site owner. for the actions of some damn noob. I don't like having to do that.

wearing a rep Panerai into a Panerai Boutique would be a suicide mission.

Unless you are so bad ass & know Muai Tai, Brazillian Ju Jitzu, and a little thing I like to call "i nailed your mom.

The rep culture highly frowns on wearing reps into the AD - I always take mine off and either leave it in the car or stick it in my pocket.

That said, most people at any given AD are just salespeople and don't know sh!t about what they are selling.

So, even though I'd never do it - if you are wearing a brand they don't sell I doubt any salesperson would be able to tell it's a rep.

Watchmakers at an AD (or managers who actually know watches) ........that's a different story.

Touchy subject. First off, I would never wear my rep into a upscale watch shop regardless if they carry the Panerai brand. My whole intention of this post is to point out some of the obvious flaws a professional would be able to spot on one's wrist.

tbh, the SAs at the ADs really dunno anything abt their own products, heck, in fact i think a handful of Gen owners know nuts abt their own watches, the mechanics and stuffs other then it costing them 4 or 5 digits and its a luxury item.

that said and done, i agree with TB99, nvr walk-in to an AD wearing a rep, its realli giving yourself a slap in the face no matter how confident you might be. Gens are what we are after but given the fact since it cost so much, Reps gives us the satisfaction we like to have without paying an arm nor a leg for it.

Touchy, yeah. Much discussion ensues, though. Both in the rep fora and the gen fora, where I just read a thread on how to spot fakes. At least one guy said that rep enthusiasts know more about watches than gen owners. Especially when it comes to PAMs, I bet that is a true statement.

It really depends of the replica to be honnest.
Franken and modded watch, you really need to open it to figure out...

Regarding out of the box replica, a good saler/manager will spot it in a second.

But still, remember the HBB case when Biver thought the replica he saw were gen... but it wasnt.

That is said, never take the risk to wear rep in AD, never. Its the first rule of the fight club mates.

Dont bring attention to our precious hobby ;)

Maybe in general, yes. However, a quick glance through some of the old-timers posts on 'Risti.com and it's obvious that a lot of those guys know A LOT about Panerai...

Tells

After owning over a dozen gen Pams and being introduced recently to the rep world (rocks), everyone's replies seem to be right.

1. AR on the crystal
2. Dials - If the cutout on the sandwiches aren't right, it's an easy tell. This is subjective since some would be able to notice it more than others, but personally I can spot it a mile away e.g. dial cutout is a bit too thick or thin; font is misshapen or completely mistaken.
3. Lume color - Easy tell - once again, if you're experienced with the gens as an AD staff should be, the color of the lume is very noticeable.

Advice: I personally wouldn't recommend taking the chance, but also consider they are working in the cs industry and as far as they know, you could be a customer who was sold a high end replica unbeknownst. I wonder if they'd volunteer to burst that bubble or go with the "Fantastic, it is very beautiful." ...and be done with it. Ignorance is bliss after all, no? :)

Good luck and wear it in good health!

Pam enthusiasts are vehement about their brand -- and they make it a point to out rep owners. They know the tells more than owners of any other brand. But, I doubt some kid behind the counter would either know the difference or take a chance on blowing a potential sale by screaming "rep" to his boss!

That said, I always leave my rep in the car when I go into an AD...

What would happen if a rep were spotted at a AD? I'm playing Devil's advocate, since I wear my gens to an AD, it's the fallout that makes me curious.

That sounds like a traumatic experience especially if the kid was there, that's all I would hear for a week "Dada watch smash!"

Wouldn't it be awesome if they smashed it and were wrong??
"Nooooooo!!!! That was a BAMFORD Submariner you idiot, not a heavily flawed Taiwanese rep!!!"
