Hey KJ2020 thanks for all the info on this thread. Im gonna get a BP 16570 and have a few qns if you don't mind.

1) Where can I find a thinner CB or can a modder do it? (or is it even necessary?)
2) Is it possible to change the crown position or do you feel like it's not worth it.
3) Any mods you recommend for the watch or is it good to go OOTB?

Thanks man!

Also, why the love for the neo-vintage and not really vintage?

Hey bro,

1) The caseback on the BP 16570 is not as thick as on the BP 16710. It doesn't make your watch stick up on your wrist and it never bothered me enough to feel like I had to replace it. There is a lot of info about replacing the BP 16710 caseback in my review thread of it. The same replacements that work for it *should* fit the BP 16570. Shaving a caseback is possible, but you can't always keep the same outer profile, with the stairstep shape leading to a brushed plateau.

16710 BP vs Gen

2) Changing crown position is also possible but is not beginner level metal work. The old tube has to be removed and the hole welded closed with new material. Then a new hole drilled and tapped at the new height. There are forum members who are experts in mods like this, even entire case shaping. You can see some of this type of work in my review thread.

3) I modded my first BP 16570 with a rotating bezel to make a fantasy watch.

But the others I have that are not fantasy are mostly stock. On two of them I sanded the engraved rehaut off and one or more of them have different crystals, gaskets, or bracelets. But the rep is pretty good OOTB IMO if you aren't overly picky. Like all reps you can spend a lot on one and make it nearly indistinguishable from a gen. Personally I would rather have 5 acceptable reps than one near gen-like for the same money. Though I really appreciate what members do to some of these reps.

My love for neo-vintage stems mostly from owning a gen 16710 as the original owner. It's a first year model from 1989, bought in 1990. At first it became a challenge for me not to scratch it up, then an obsession. Eventually it became second nature to not let anything but a shirt or coat sleeve touch it. It got about a 5 inch invisible barrier around it that nothing is allowed in. That habit pattern became sub-conscious and was easily carried over to my reps. I detest scratches and don't tolerate them for long in the rare instances they occur. What can I say I love "showroom condition".

This watch has been all over the world and has not been kept in a safe. But it has been exceedingly well cared for. 31 years old. It is indeed really vintage.

Hey bro....

Woah thanks man, I reckon i will just leave it OOTB considering what you said about the CB and I see what you mean about the caseback modding.

I'm personally not one for babying my watches, I like to just wear them and then whatever happens gives it character or some bs like that hahaha.

That 16710 is a beauty with the HELs, am quite jealous that I wasn't born early enough to snag one of them :(

Haha I am similar to you in that I do consider most what I do to the watch as "giving it character". But I don't purposely do stuff to them lol. I am also not a huge big fan of people doing vintage builds and over doing the vintage effects. I think some vintaging looks great but not overdone.

I tend to want to keep my more modern style watches as scratch-free as possible though.

Here is a nice comparison of BP vs. Gen. The BP was mine and the Gen from my colleague at work - back in 2017. The BP is okayish but not really near the Gen. Feel & finish completely different. This convinced me to buy the Gen too :)

Yes BP is making them again with good bracelet fit. The one I posted previously in this thread was just purchased within the last year from Fat Panda (Tim). It's a good piece, but the rehaut was off. I didn't care because I knew I was going to sand it off.

Here is my QC video (Jul 14, 2020)

https://vimeo.com/438208148/5a4f15348a

Ohh so this is what rehaut means haha. I noticed that the BP ones availiable online seem all to have that engraving on the rehaut so this probably is a good indicator for BP. Btw I cant find Fat Panda on the TD list, does he have another Name here on RWI?

Edit: i forgot to ask what kind of Movement was in the 16570 that you inspected in the QC Video?

domiffm The biggest flaws seem to be BP's cyclops and DW... and SEL. Nitpicks would be the wrong red color, bold markings on the bezel, oversized crown, CG shape, etc. etc. etc....

Thank you for the side by side and more detailed shots of your gen.

Damn you got some modding skills, really getting the most out of those reps. What do you think of a 16570 Polar with a Jubilee metal strap? Is it even possible? I do really wish to do that one day if i find the right TD with the BP 16570.

hey I was going to go over to your other thread and tell you to look at domiffm 's side by side pics before you go for BP.

But domiffm 's BP is from 2017 which is ages ago. In all honesty i am totally ok with these rather "small" differences as long as the watch works and atleast closely looks like the gen 16570 :)

Yep :) I wasn't saying you should be discouraged (or encouraged) to get it. I just wanted to let you know you have more information now to make your decision. These side by side pics are priceless.

IMO the worst on the BP is the case shape. It’s not a bad rep, don’t get me wrong. But it’s just not very gen like. Unfortunately there has never been a good rep of the 16570 which is why I HAD TO jump on the Gen train. LOL

I find that even the old Noob 16570 was not a good one.

If you are used to the current excellent super reps on the market from VSF/ZF/Noob (Subs, Daytonas, YM, Tudor, PAMs etc) the existing options for 16570 will only disappoint you. But maybe that’s just my view.

You can put a jubilee on pretty much any rep if you are willing to do a little sanding, shaping, drilling or grinding. Sometimes you get off easy, sometimes it's a knock down drag out.

That would be the one. The serial # M832118 is a BP trademark. The hour and minute hands are a tad skinny on this version, but c'est la vie.

Oh thanks for that advice. Hopefully i will get more information on the actual BP version
