hi, im buying a present for myself,
but can't decide on which one to get

anyway i'm deciding between GEN 111/112/176/177
which one is more recommended for my first pam ?
i preffer plain dial
and i want an exhibition case back.

if the prices are about the same between all of them (im buying a pre owned)
which one is more worth it and which one hold more value in long run ?
thank you

Panerai values are nothing more then a bubble due to limited watch runs. Buy a limited or low year production.

i say build you a few vintage watchs with a rolex 618 or angelus 240 sf.

im building a esdee 3646 with a rolex 618 that would be in the ball park off youe pre-owned 111.

Get one that isn't well repped -- the point of owning a gen is getting one where you won't have buyer's remorse 6 months later when you see a modded 111 up here that looks so close to yours at 1/5 the price that is makes you go insane. There are plenty of good models out there -- but don't waste your time on one that is decently repped by our friends overseas. A big waste IMHO.

okay so which model ?
my criteria are
-base/marina dial as i preffer cleaner dial, without chrono or date or power reserve indicator
-must be a luminor 44mm case
-see through back case
-and preffer manual winding.

May I ask why those are your criteria? Because frankly, those specs are easily repped and you would be better off to save your money. I'm going to assume your budget is between $3-5,000? You can get a lot of watch for that or a heck of a lot of reps.

I dunno why you'd buy a gen 111/112 or any base model one. The reps are so scary close you would be wasting your money. My 2c

Among the models you listed I would go with the 112. I know nothing and don't care about value on the long run though, I always choose only what I like the most :)

All what has been stated before about reps being so good and gen being anti-economic and is right, but if I ever buy a gen Panerai it will be a base. No other contemporary model concentrates the essence of Panerai spirit more.
Just my 0.02. :)

Imo, dont waste your dough on 'eta' models. at least get one with inhouse movement. The 8-day models are a good starting choice.

You can narrow your choices in half if you can decide whether or not you want a sec@9. I personally do like having it. And I am a SS over titanium... so the ever classic 111 would be my choice. But unless you want to have a gen for the sake of being gen... others have mentioned, the noob and now new Hfac are so damn good.

i would look at the new 8 days luminors IMO. 560, 510, 562 and 564, which are pretty much the updated versions of the 112,111,176,177 respectively, with a slightly thinner case and new p5000 8 days in house movement. much more worth the money if you ask me, rather than an old model with eta movement that is already so well repped

Don't care about the gen you're looking for is already well repped or not. I get gens and reps, and even the same model, even as well repped as we can find, you'll never get the same feeling with wearing a gen vs a rep. Go with the one you love. These 4 match your criteria, and keep a good value, you won't loose any money with buying 111/112/176/177.

And 111/112/176/177 are a better choice than the new 560/561/562/564. They will keep a better value, I guess.

Whatever you decide to go with, you can't go wrong with one of these 4 ;)

Look its up to you at the end of the day. I sold my gen IWC 3777 because the rep was so close. My friend who owns a PAM111 compared my Noob PAM111 and he nearly had a heart attack. I told him I paid 200USD.

He was literally swearing for 1 hr at me because I didnt tell him about these high quality reps. Few months later he flipped it for a IWC 7 days. LOL

Personally after being here and seeing the quality of certain brands......my mind is fixated now at buying gens with inhouse movements and/or ones that are not repped well. Visually some super reps are impossible to tell the difference. You dont walk around with a loupe or 100x zoom camera to appreciate the fine differences anyway.
