Hi guys. I am new in here. I would really appreciate any help. I'm having trouble uploading photos but have recently purchased a Breitling superocean 44 which I was led to believe was genuine but I am now having doubts. Would anyone be happy to pm me their email address so I can send some photos for them to look at??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adrian

It's a tough call, as this is one of the best reps. I have one with blue accents. With just one dial angle it is difficult to tell, but from your picture, I'd sat its a rep mate. Sorry. The Date Wheel is slightly out of line in the window, the numbers are too far towards the center of the watch and not the center of the window. The biggest tell is the curvature of the dial markers. The gen has applied markers which are clean cut with 90 degree angles, but on the rep the whole dial is stamped, which gives edges a slight curve.

I could be wrong, as I don't see any light bending on the dial around the markers. A picture of the movement may help. Most of these reps have an Asian 2824 movement, whilst the gen will have a true ETA with a few mods.

Hope you didn't pay too much...

The only reason i was suspicious was the clasp and safety buckle that secures the clasp is very sharp.i have torn clothes and scratched my children quite badly with it.Would this be a definite sign of a fake as I'm sure Breitling would not make a watch with edges so sharp.

Hi Adrian,

As bkg said this is a tough one because the reps of these are so good. I have the chrono version of this and for me there are a few things i would mention in addition to bkg's comments. First off you should take it to a Breitling AD or watchsmith and get them to take the back off, or if you can do it yourself, take some pictures and post them on here - there are a number of ways to get the back off, roll up some strong adhesive tape into a ball and twist anti-clockwise whilst applying some pressure, you can also use rubber gloves to get you some purchase on the caseback and do the same. There are plenty of guys here who will tell you straight away if the movement is gen or rep.

The areas that concern me are the numbers on the bezel and particularly the 5s, the dots between 60 and 15 look too big to me, but the fact that you have dots instead of small dashes means this is a newer version and I'm not sure any reps were made with the newer style dots. The crown guard also looks wrong compared to the gen and too short but that could be the angle of the photos. Take a look at the second hand the white paint stops short of the round part of the hand and should go all the way until it meets this. Check out the Breitling site and images of this watch on google, you haven't shown the non crown side view, their should be an escape valve there.

Hope we're blowing smoke out of our asses here and being over cautious and all is good for you, but get it sorted asap for all sorts of reasons and please let us know how you get on.

Hard to tell, it could be a Noob and it could be a gen. Truly a super rep. I'm no Breitling expert and if you want to be sure you need to open it up. Let's see if some of the seniors can chime in.

From what i know (and from reading up a bit before i boughtmine) noob only did a version with dash shaped markers between the bezel markers at 12, 1, 2 & 3... Like mine

Which was correct for older model gens. However the current model gen has circular markers, as on the breitling site

Like everyone says the only real way to tell is to get the case back off... All of the other things that are getting picked up on are minor, and lighting could change the appearance... The movement wont lie.

Hope the above at least gives you some hope :)

I'd say Gen with the bezel dots. Like others have said get the case back off and a couple of good shots of the movement.

I'm pretty sure the Reps are stamped/embossed dials. The numerals on the gen dial are actual appliques or indices..

Also pull the crown out to the time setting position and take a picture. The Reps have a "longer" crown and the bottom of the crown when pulled to the time setting position sits out just a hair further than gen. The dial is the easiest tell.. If you can see that it is an embossed/stamped dial vs actual applied indices for the numerals then it is a rep. Get a very good side view of the indices if you can, the 6 or the 9 so we can see how the numerals meet up with the dial.

Looks real to me the s dips down on the superocean and the markers on the dial are not moulded on the dial which is the tell on the rep. In addition the bezel is rounded edges not sharper which is a tell also

But best thing to do is open the back at an ad and ask them to validate
