Blackbay crown comparison - HR vs. Rep

Hi,

A month or two ago I got a blackbay rep. Love the watch but it's had a few issues. One of which is the crown. It doesn't function properly and will spin freely on the stem if not positioned exactly right. So, a new crown was in order. I couldn't get one from the dealer as I purchased it wholesale which means no warrantee or parts of any kind. I decided to order a replacement from Helenarou as he is now offering a blackbay replica case and has a "branded" crown to match. The crown was $30 and arrived today.

First, the good. It feels like a good quality crown. It also fits the case just fine and screws in smoothly. No issues there.

The not so good is the engraving on the crown. Or, I should say lack of engraving. And let me preface this by saying I've never handled a gen. This may be inline with the gen and the Replica is off but based on the pictures I've seen, I'd say that is not the case. It appears to be painted and then a clear coat of some sort applied over it maybe. I can't feel any grooves with my finger nail. It's perfectly smooth. The lines in the design are also quite a bit fatter than I would expect.

So, pictures are as follows. I retouched them a bit so hopefully the detail is sufficiently visible. My camera skills are not that hot.

Just thought I'd share since I hadn't seen anything posted about replacement crowns.

Thanks,

Andy

The rep crown looks much closer to the gen. The markings on the HR are too thin and spread out.

It seems like the HR case isn't very good at all, and there's no real reason to pick it up over TD rep placement parts.

It's the rep crown with the thin engraving.
It's obviously a V2 crown. The V1 crown is light years ahead of the V2, engraving are much deeper and thicker than the V2.

Oh wow, my mistake. I haven't seen the gen in person, but the HR crown definitely looks better comparing it to a gen photo:

Thicker + markings closer together.
