Cool post. I don't like the BB at all, though admittedly I haven't seen one in person. And I agree that it'll probably follow the fate of the heritage chrono (which I believe let people down because, simply put, it looks great in pics but looks and feels crap on the wrist). But let's wait and see... In the meantime, there are such gorgeous original vintage Tudors out there that buying a new retro version seems silly to me.
Today, I was at a local watch trader, who happened to have both a 2nd hand Tudor Heritage Chrono (grey dial) and a new Black Bay there.
Heritage Chrono:
Look:
IMO the Chrono does look quite neat, although I'm pretty sure that positive feeling would wear off all too soon. I guess, the overall design is a bit over the top, a wee bit cheapish somehow, to my eye. It simply doesn't look like a 3k watch. More like a luxury swatch, if you catch my drift.
Feel:
It DOES in fact feel cheapish, no doubt about that! It is a MUCH lighter watch than lets say a 216570 Explorer II (had the chance to put a gen on there too...) or my new 116610LV Noob V2 (which I had in my pocket...). This gen tudor bracelet is NOWHERE where the latest rep rolex bracelets and clasp are (and that means something coming from me, since I find my latest V2 rep bracelet & clasp crapp-o, compared with gen...). That is not a worthy 3k watch bracelet, no way! Tudor, please for the love of god, go check out a gen Sinn bracelet, then you now what a bracelet gotta be like on a 3k watch....
Black bay:
Look:
Bloody effin' great lookin' vintage'ish sports/diver watch!! Loving it!!!!
Reduce to the max. Guess that feeling wouldn't wear off anytime soon. Fan-fücking-tastic vintage leather strap. OK clasp (let's say something like a gen Tag Heuer clasp).
Feel:
"Feels like a damn gen watch"-Feeling *haha* No, let's be serious. This new BB goes over the counter for 2k flat, without hard trading, boxed, the whole paper works, complete Tudor warranty, NATO strap & leather strap. And I'd say it is worth every coin -- unless, of course, our beloved chinese makers get their ass into gears and come up with a 1:1 ACCURATE AND GEN FEELING rep, put a trusty A282x into it and slap a neat 200-250 USD price tag on it........let's say as they managed with the new Explorer II
PS:
If the new noob version of the 216570 EXP II lives up to the hype, and if it is anywhere near my V2 116610LV in terms of look and feel, don't even bother thinking about going for the gen. I really was not impressed by the gen EXP II today. It pretty much felt like my V2, which is actually a good thing....
BUT the GEN 116610LV I had on my wrist yesterday was in a different league than my V2.....oh, that insert, that turning feeling of the bezel, that bracelet and that clasp!!!! YUMMY!!!!
)))
So, gen 116610LV SubC beats gen 216570 EXP II. Noob V2 SubC 116610LV pars with gen gen 216570 EXP II.... go figure....
