Hey Guys,

Was going to ask for some guidance and advice regarding purchasing a watch from my birth year (1985).

I have been contemplating numerous models such as Rolex but am finding it difficult to find other models that interest me.

This one is supposedly from my birth year.

Do they make vintage rolex's of this model as good quality reps? I would like to try a rep before committing to buy the gen.

Also, is there a definitive list of popular watch brands such as Rolex/Omega/IWC/Panerai etc etc sorted by year made?

Its very hard to find watches made of a particular year.

Any recommendations for 1985 built watches welcome as well.

Cheers

I have that one as well, great recommendation and a beautiful watch.
Other options in rolex would be the matte dial/1000ft 16800 transitional sub or maybe stretch it a bit with a 1655 or pepsi 1675, I dont think panerai was around 'til early 90's so nothing there.

Panerai has been around since 1860

Gens from the early 1980ies, are there that many?

Anyway, here's my story - I also looked into vintage gens starting with the charming idea a birth year watch woild be great.

In the end, I decided for a watch that was two years younger than me, simply because it was in better condition than the alternative from my birth year, at parity cost. I decided to rank watch condition over manufacturing year.
:)
So here it is - my 1970 Rolex Model 1675...

Yeah I want a Rolex/IWC/Panerai or Omega.

Willing to pay good coin for something in mint condition. But its almost 30 years now.....so that might be hard.

Thanks for all your recommendations.

Apparently the biggest watch release for my year was this bad boy, can't find much else.

I wanted a 1988 daytona but they are rare. I settled for a 1998 datejust with papers dated on my 10th birthday. Close enough.

Arghhhh! Watchfinder just called to say someone bought my watch 10 mins before I paid.

Now they are going to try and find another or refund me.

Snatched out in front of me.

You can get a 1988 Daytona any day of the year

Not in my price range. In the UK I haven't seen a decent one below £10,000.

The 16520 daytona started in 1988 so wasn't a full year production. Finding one with its original mark 1 dial and bezel is very hard.
