TC 16610 Project and a little advice please :)

I actually have a few projects going but am stuck on this bezel at the moment...

Let me preface with I have searched and read as many threads on this as possible and am at a dead end. Some wisdom and knowledge are greatly appreciated here...

My TC sub is currently equipped with a gen LN insert and I just received my new gen LV insert as well as a gen 16613(blue) insert and need some help.

After going through all the awesome tutorials here and other forums, I prepped my workspace with all the tools and got to work to get nowhere. Let me do a play by play...

1. I inserted a knife between case and bezel and gently pried it up.

2. The entire assembly, crystal and all, came along for the ride.

3. I used crystal press to put it all back on again.

4. Next attempt... Same result but crystal stayed on. However, the entire bezel assembly (with retaining ring) came off.

I cannot seem to get past this point after at least 4-5 hours of fooling with it and can't for the life of me separate the retainer from the bezel so I can pop the current insert out and the new one in.

Is there something I am missing. A tip or trick or anything that can get this (what I thought would be a 20 minute project) done?

Thanks so much!

Instead, try to pop the crystal and its gasket off the bezel assembly. You'll then have access to remove the insert.

I must admit when I hear,," I've read the tutorials and now I've got my tools on the table, I'm ready to attack, I'm inching towards the watch knife in hand"
I start getting those little butterflies in my stomach..... lol

And success (kind of)!!!

Good news... Figured it out and finessed it off properly and got the LN off and LV in (see pic)

Bad News... The click spring went to the place where random lost socks go. Ill keep looking for it but for now will celebrate one victory at a time!

Thanks for all your PMs...

Good news is that the click spring is very cheap from TC. Where did you get the 16613 insert? I'm in the market for one.

Found click spring and watch is 100% complete!

Next
Up... The 16610 shark. Will do that next time. Gonna celebrate my first experience completing my own updating without running to my watch smith!

Thanks RWI!

I found the 16613 on TRF. Got lucky that this blue one is faded to silver for a proper shark look.

Like I said... The LV is complete. I also have a gen crown and gen crystal I will tackle next. For now... I'm loving it...

And for my incoming BK 16610. Here is a "pre" preview of the "sheriffwho 16610 shark"

Note: this is not yet mounted... But this is the actual insert and I think it will look pretty sweet...

Please use a new nylon gasket when you pop everything back on. This ensures good water resistance. Never cheap out on gaskets.

Great advice. I do plan on lubing it all up and luckily I grabbed a wet tester that can test up to 6atm...

I am really enjoying these projects and its pretty cool that I can now do some stuff myself. Thanks RWI!

Oh... And for those who have the same problem I posted in my original post...

Slide your knife just 1-3 millimeters under the bezel and pop up. I was simply going too far and pulling th retainer up with the bezel.

Best!

Found it on TRF... I saw a guy who had sold me the blue insert and just asked him if he had the LV and he said yes and it was still sealed and offered to buy it and I paid around 400ish for it...

Yeah, I think it was only possible because I bundled the deal with two inserts a crown and a crystal. So, I got it for a better price than I would've otherwise... One dude on there was selling his LV for like $700! Insanity! Lol!

FYI...

Maybe I'm the only one or did something wrong but I installed the gen crystal today to this 16610 and could not make either of the OEM gaskets fit. Just could not press the bezel flush down. It actually warped my crystal press with all the force I put on it.

I just put the gasket that was on the TC crystal and it went on like butter. Just thought you all should know...

So now, all I have left on this one is installing the gen crown.
The. It's over to the BK 16610 for the Gen LB insert - and will probably stop there... Oh, and I figured I'd keep stacking on and have a gen 16600 sd insert on its way with a TC sd dial/hands and TV crown for my BPSD...

Will keep you all posted...

Best!

Gen gaskets are wider than rep ones, I use rep gaskets, if the crystal retainer seems a bit loose and swapping gasket with another one does not fix it, I use a gen gasket

I guess I learned that the hard way. But I suppose that's how we better ourselves. Even tonight, I noticed a spec of dust under the crystal - despite using the compressed air. Anyway... I popped the bezel off gave it a good clean with the microfiber and popped it back on in 5
Minutes flat. A month ago, that would've been a trip to the watch smith and perhaps a few
Days waiting. Even a couple
Days ago, it took me a few hours to figure how to get just the bezel off without pulling the retainer and crystal off altogether. Lol

Still. I've zero interest in machining parts,
Luming, or anything else over the top with my all thumbs surgical precision! That's what my man Joe is for!!!

Baby steps... ;-)
