Best stock Tudor Submariner?

I'm searching for the best available Tudor Submariner - preferably the 7928. I don't plan on modding it - it just has to wear well and doesn't have to have obvious flaws.

Hello Murdoc, if you want the best outnof the box 7928 I would contact Jensen or Phong. He will provide a super watch aged the way you specify. I have a few different models I built using his parts and his casework is great. I have modified mine to my own liking but they are great outbof the box. Be prepared to spend more than your average China rep though.

The JK factory 7828 is good for the money but is full of tells. You can get a very believeable vintage rose but will have to do a good bit of modding to get there.

If you want great vintage feel and dont want to mod anything. The best for the money is to buy the rose dialed black bay black and throw it on a nice vintage leather. One of the vest reps ever and great modern reliability.

This one is gen but will give you an idea.

This is a Phong Square Crown Guard case, dial from Singapore, onlinestorehk big ball hand set, gen crown, M Young crystal, Clark bezel and gen swiss 2824. Cost me around $1900 to build.

The redish insert was an anomalie. They were black inserts that over 50 years turned that reddish color that Tudor chose for the initial Black Bay release. Depending on the run, some turned grey or bluish too.

Very good to know that and I completely trust Hodinkee on such matters.

I had read other articles that indicated that older Tudor Submariners whose original black inserts had faded to a tropical reddish brown color had also played into the color choice.
