Again we are looking for who is the real SEAL and I think it's the guy on FutureWeapons.

But I have legit question for the experts.

My son wanted to know why we need a Deep Sea watch from Rolex that goes to 3900 Meters when the deepest dive outside of a craft is 200.9 meters?

I cannot answer the question correctly or to his satisfaction and you know how brilliant kids are...they won't let anyone slide.... especially dad.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Actually the deepest dive without a vehicle is held by commercial divers working for the French company, Comex. They dove deeper than 600 meters. The record in the gulf of Mexico is held by the company I started with, Global Diving. They went 331 meters ( 1089mfsw ) and worked at that depth for 20 days. My deepest working depth was 280.4 meters ( 920 fsw ). Decompression took 10 days 10 hours.

I am astounded at your answer..I had no idea and when I googled the question it told me 200.9M.

10 days 10 hours of decompression blows me away. That has to be dangerous as all get out. How do you even do that? and Where?

Thank you so much for the response and please stay safe.

Stunned!!!!

What's everyone bitching about seals or no seals it's automatic init :D

I'd love to see Rolex trying to sue the makers for counterfeiting their product. Explain that to a judge

This type of diving is called saturation. Basically you climb into a steel living chamber, then you press down to pressure depth on helium. Then you live in the chamber for however many days are required to complete the job. To go to work you get into a bell and seperate from the system. We lower the bell to bottom until the pressure equalizes and you can open the door. You climb out and go to work. We do 5 hours on bottom then your bell partner locks out and does 5 hours. They pick us up and lock us back into the system and the other team goes for 5 hours each. This way you compress once and decompress once. It is much safer than surface diving and more productive ( money ). Her are some pictures of a system and bell.

This is a picture of the living chambers

This is a portable system. You can see the living chamber underneath. The building on top is the control van.

Helium because it acts better under the pressure?
- I wouldnt be able to last more then a few days w/ out going crazy..
unless.. of course my bunk mate was some cute Swedish girl
that needed to be schooled in the ways of american love.

but... I dont think that happens much outside of the porno industry.

Spectacular photos my friend...We lay people have no idea. Truly amazing. Thank you so much for showing us. Man that has to be a difficult job. This is very interesting

I'm not sure but I think that this RQLEX might explode at those depths.

Helium because it is an inert gas and relatively inexpensive for the time being. You can use any inert gas like argon or neon, but the price is much higher. You need to replace the nitrogen in your breathing media because nitrogen is narcotic at depth. Pretty much all of us are useless on air past 200 feet. I have been as deep as 220 on air, and I was fucked up!

As far as the loo, if you look at the picture of the chambers the smaller chamber in the center is the loo. Toilet and shower. It is also the chamber that the bell attaches to, because when you open the hatch water and mud will get into the system. We want to keep the living chamber as dry as possible. Any illness spreads like wildfire in there. It is like a giant petri dish! :D

This RQLEX would probably hold up great, it would just figure! :D I have seen quite a few watches without HE purges blow the crystal out. When you do not unscrew the crown odds are it will blow. Helium molecules are smaller than nitrogen so they will get past the seals and into the watch. When you decompress and the HE molecules start to expand they can not escape. It is then just a matter of time. It also does not help that none of us will tell you either. :D

Not to hijack the thread but is this basically a sleep work sleep work situation or are there things to occupy time for you when you aren't doing either?

I guess what I am asking is what is the life like? How long are you out at sea..then home etc?

What type of work is done when you are out of the bell? Welding etc?

Not trying to pry just curious..this is really interesting.

Might be a cool sub-forum for people to explain their interesting jobs.

Thanks again. My son's going to love this information.

I work on a 28 days on 28 days off schedule right now. Basically I only work 6 months a year. When you are in saturation, it is eat, sleep, work. When there is down time like during decompression, or desat, as we call it. We bring small DVD players in and PSPs. The PSP is pretty cool because you can play games wireless with guys sitting outside. I have internet access through wireless on some vessels with the PSP or a blackberry. I try to sleep as much as possible. It is nice having a schedule for many years that was not done. The longest I have spent in sat at one time was 61 days. I would have killed everyone in there with me if I had gone 1 more week. We were surly to say the least. We were in Africa at that time and when in more remote places it is common to stay for the duration, or at least it was.

How old is your son Maxlove? We are always looking for new blood! There is always work for new divers.

Oh that's right you asked what we do for work. We do wet welding (not me, I suck at it), all types of subsea construction for the oil industry. If you are lucky you sometimes get to blow stuff up. Since the hurricanes, a lot of the work has been capping broken pipelines and scrapping toppled platforms. We set new platforms and install the risers(pipe downcomers that link to the pipelines on bottom, and we connect the pipelines to these risers with studs and nuts on bottom. We also do inspection work on existing platforms looking for damage and deterioration.

Since it seems, as obviously there would be, alot of demand for this
truly masterful 1:1 rep. I decided to buy it back from my friend
(who apparently was laughed at by a group of ppl at the mall *again I told him it was rubbish and he insisted it was close enough to the real thing.. *)

I have decided to put up for sale this great Rep.

Act fast, this will obviously be a quick sell !
or just go and read the thread for a tues morning laugh
