Why would the guy restore the watch?
He lost a lot of value doing that.

Bernie Madoff's vintage Rolex..........

The guy that restored the watch replaced the dial with a NOS one. The old dial with all the natural patina and grime IS worth a lot of money to shady collectors. They put together a frankenstien watch, invent a story, with all the parapharnelia to go along with it, and sell it for big bucks. So this time, it was Bernie Madoff who was ripped off ! :hehehe:

.....the dumbass didn't do his homework before spending over $30,000.00 for a vintage Rolex. The irony here is it's a good representation of Madoff, who appeared to be one thing, but turned out to be something completely different!

The dial was so white and new for an 80 year old watch. The guy who replaced it knew its worth ;)

I was in Vegas a couple years ago and stopped by that shop. None of the stars were there and the place was unbelievably tiny. It looks so much bigger on tv. Hd some interesting things there including Olympic medals, Super Bowl rings, baseball al champ rings...

I think pawn dude slighy underestimates the value of that watch. Not all rich idiots are "serious collectors." in fact, most of Madoff's cosmographs had refinished dials and the fact that he could buy 100 vintage cosmographs and not give two ****s shows there is interest in refinished vintage pieces. $10k? That is what beat to shit two tone Daytonas from 1996 with weirdo fake dials go for on eBay all day. Tempered with the irony of some hedge fund a-hole's bragging rights that he has Bernie's watch, I think it could get way more.

A Pawn shop is not ebay.. Pawn shops are about the last place you go to sell something, especially if you are trying to get top dollar.

Yeah. If you're trying to make money off that watch, a Pawn Shop certainly isn't the place to sell. That Cosmograph goes in an auction house. You have a lot better chance of cashing in.
