Newbie here.

I have been eyeing this for a while. I am told that copies of the black steel model are very close and almost impossible to distinguish from the originals.

Any advice on which TD to purchase from, and thoughts on the watch in general?

Not sure they still sell the BR 03-92 anymore; it's been off the "Flavor of the Month" list for quite some time. You'll have to contact TDs to see if one of them can get it. From what TD you buy doesn't really matter much as long as your TD states he can get you the watch you want.

99% of all B&R reps are nearly indistinguishable from the gen because of their simple and easy to replicate designs. The biggest issue with the new versions are the date wheels not matching the color of the dial. You can’t go wrong with any of the newest models, just be sure to find one who’s datewheel color matches the dial.
