This is in reference to the AP 15400. So Miyota 9015 is made by many factories. I beleive the top 3 ranking factories are TF, BP & V6F. Out of these which ones would you choose/have chosen and why? In your opinion which one is the best and why?

Very good thread, as owner of a "cheap" 15400, I'm condisdering upgrading + get the glass from guru. Will watch the poll. Looking for the best blue dial, 1 extra mm of thickness is not crucial.

1:1 thickness (TF) is more valuable than a better looking movement (V6F) IMO.

Looking more accurate on the wrist is worth more to me.

I definitely vote for the TF version ,
I have one and I must say that it very well finished , also the movement keeps accurate time,
the case is 10. mm size like the gen. , this is very important for the best looking

TF is winning by a margin here... Can anyone explain how the V6F has a better looking movement? If someone has comparison pictures that would be great. I compared the V6F movement and the TF movement online but can't really tell the difference

It has more letters/more jewels - and it´s (noticeable) too thick (!). It´s not only the looks, with thickness the feel/point of gravity on the wrist changes too. I´d take the older BP Swiss over the V6F for reliability and function. In fact I would prefer superclean, undecorated movements on all offerings, but that´s just a personal opinion.

Less decoration often also means a better movement, much improved reliability because the finish/gluing is often very superficially made, creating a nicer look when all is centered, but with the risk of parts (like the glued on rubis) coming loose or parts being dirty with metal dust from machining/ not fitting one to each other. There is not even the best look/finish on some samples on TD pics
V6F (check the center of the rotor, the 2 screws on the wheel of the top, the other screw fully on the left and the very rough machining at the left side of the cut-through plate - that will leave tiny metal parts falling into the movement over time)

TF - quite a bit better finished

BP - Swiss ETA - older from when a decorated rotor already was hype (end of 2013) but another quality level (without other decorations)

Have you ever compared the rep pics with gen? There is no way you don't see the difference...

is there any way to make decorated movement more reliable?

Short of waiting for a new clone that doesn't have stuck on pieces? Not really...

You can get it serviced early I suppose, and specifically see if you can get some like Domi or Vac to pay extra attention to the decorative elements of the movement being secure and good to run.

I have to raise my voice for the V6F here. I have it since Tuesday and it is just beautiful. The movement decoration actually is a plate, that is sitting on top of the 9015 - the movement itself is not modified at all. Also, the plate isn't fixed to the movement, but to the spacer. I examined it while i greased the noisy rotor. So you indeed have a reliable movement as it is left totally stock underneath. Mine is keeping great time so far and only gained 2 seconds since Tuesday. That is quite perfect if you ask me. If i think about the BP Miyota that has to be taken apart by the Chinese to engrave it and the Miyotas with deco plate, that just is placed on top without taking the movement apart, i see a big possibility of the decorated 9015s to be actually MORE reliable. Just thinking...

The JF V7 Diver has a much better movement deco plate though. The finish is just remarkably better and absolutely gorgeous - thats also because JF had more space within the Divers case, but the complete finish is on another level. For a quick glance, the 15400 does look fantastic indeed though. I will post comparison pics in a second.

Just received my QC photos from Ryan and Jordan for a TF Factory blue dial on leather strap 15400.

I will send the rep strap and inserts to Donerix, who will make me a custom midnight blue strap with blue stitching.

The final result should look something like this (pictures and inspiration courtesy of Rubberj00).
