Hi Folks,

today was the first day of this yearly event, the biggest watch exhibition worldwide.
It has been said, the fair is huge (more than 1800 exhibitors, including subcontractors, jewelry and accessories manufacturers).
It's impossible to visit in a day, and for most of us it won't be so exciting, as many boothes are not opened to the public... That's sometimes frustrating.

But this year I had the pleasure to be invited by DrVerylong, and could attend the exhibition as a journalist (wanabee). Well, it's a far better way to attend, still not perfect. But hell, free entrance, free cocktails and food, press conference and free media kits, what else would I expect ?

So first of all I wish to personally thank DrVerylong for being so generous in accepting and presenting me as his apprentice photographer

It's also difficult to share too much, there were so many things and brands to see. So I'd like to show what speaks to all of us, watches and other things we are used to in the rep world. Many brands are missing, but I hpe you'll like what we brought back.

I have quite a lot of pics, and DrVerylong as well, which he will share later this week.

I will post by batches within the 48 coming hours, and hope you find some interest in this small virtual tour.

That one was interesting from the size point of view : 41mm, the perfect balance between the small 38 and the usual 44...

Sure, it's called Guangzhou World, and it takes place sometime in february. Whole China stops working during a month and they exhibit so many reps that we can't get anything here during this period. It's also called CNY :cute:

Quick feedback:

I had the pleasure of meeting Pix yesterday in Basel. We spent a great day there. He's a very nice person, and really knowledgable. We had quite some fun there and I brought back around 5 GB worth of pictures and some small video clips (<20 secs). I will have to process them today (RAW format, sorry) and upload the videos subsequently later today.

As we were there on the press day one day prior to the official opening it was not very crowded. In fact, sometimes people were busy stocking their booths. I'll get to the details later.

I have yet to chase the slides from the press conference ("Ohh, oo can haaave it on Friiday, non?).

The new watch from Hublot we could not see because when we arrived people queued back into the aisles - no chance to see anything. But I have a picture of the Gay Hublot that Pix mentioned, good to have something new.

So please hang on to this thread, I'm hurrying up to report.

On a side note: I got back yesterday night around midnight. At that time the ICE train was empty. In the train I must have fallen asleep around 23:00h for a few minutes and some idiot actually stole my nice golden Rolex bag with the elaborate golden Rolex Press Kit I meant to give away here. There was also a very nice box from Patek Philippe in it. Well done thief, you stole me some papers. And the camera bag with a x.000 Euro cam you neglected, lol

Sorry Dr to hear about your Rolex Media kit being stolen : I imagine the thief when he opened it. :cute: Not even sure he can understand what's inside, and maybe he's still looking for the Rolex in the box.

I've learnt one major information during the press release : the first (and by far) market for Swiss watches is... Hong Kong !! (not China, not Japan, not Russia, not the US...) Amazing !
