Banned from Repgeek for bumping up my post count

Hilarious, I was under the total post requirement to sell at repgeek, so I spent some time around there looking at stuff & posted, legitimately, to get my post count up enough (over 100 posts to sell which is ridiculous IMO) soI could put something up for sale & they banned me for it? Can you believe this? I think now I'm not the first person to do this, but if you ask me, a ban is unbelievable! I took time to look at stuff that I was interested in & commented on each one honestly! If they ban me for that, then I say "see ya!" don't need to be a member of a forum that is so ridiculously run!
Just my 2 cents on RepGeek...peace out!!!

Sorry, but rules are in place for a reason. The post count requirement is meant to be a way for people to get to know the seller before they sell, and to give the new member a chance to get familiar with the forum prior to conducting business there. A great deal of time and effort goes into creating and maintaining a quality forum- circumventing the system as you have admitted doing is a quality reason for being banned.

The attitude you're showing at this time would make me wonder how long you'll be on this forum...

Who do i contact in that place so I can actually get in? My account is in limbo, waiting for authorization, are they not taking new registrations anymore?

Without seeing the posts, I don't agree or disagree with TB. However, if you were posting ridiculous, 'glws, nice watch, bump, I agree' type posts, you deserve the ban - and doing the same around here may not see you banned, but you'll not be liked, and therefore fodder for other members to 'educate' you in their own little way...

If you were posting legitimate, thoughtful, cohesive posts, I have less of a problem with your attempt, personally, but I wonder - being new to their forum - what you had to sell that you thought couldn't wait to be sold over there without taking the usual, patient route.

Any seasoned member will generally appreciate the need for vigilant screening of new members to try and prevent fly-through scammers... It's a rule I for one, would like to see introduced here. Anyone who disagrees hasn't witnessed or experienced a scam IMO.

Do the time mate - it's worth it.

I've looked at a bunch of the posts sftosendai had on Repgeek, and they looked pretty unsubstantive, so I think the ban was justified.

RWI had a minimum post count to sell at one time, although it was fifty posts, not a hundred. And moderators used to watch for post runners, although to my recollection, we didn't ban the offenders. Usually we sent them warnings and removed the excessive (and annoying) posts.

But ThinkBachs is correct in the reason why minimum post counts exist in the first place. Success in sales depends on building trust, and if you can admit that you were freely sailing on a posting spree, you were deliberately defeating that process.

RWI has now removed that minimum post count, putting the onus on the buyers to determine whether a seller appears trustworthy or not. Unfortunately, no system is failsafe and we do wind up with the occasional scammed member, although we can't necessarily attribute that to the relaxation of the rules.

However, based on what you tell us now, I hope that if you do list your item for sale, that your potential buyers have the good sense to do their due diligence, and in doing so, come across this thread. They'll have to make their own decision whether they want to buy from you or not.

Good Lord I'm having an effect! He spelt mum with a "u" and not an "o" :thud:

He's making an oblique reference to the fact that when we were first introduced, I told him that I was RWI's "den mum". So you can pick yourself back up again. He didn't get more civilised. :)

If you don't contribute regularly to a forum why should you automatically have the privilege of being able to sell? Nothing worse than seeing +1 posts as someone is speed posting there way to reach a certain posting level. Why didn't you take your time and after a few days slowly raise your count? You should have posted a few pictures of your watches or maybe a review. No one then would have noticed.

But you didn't even notice that I spelled "civilised" with an "s" just for you (to see if I could make you faint again). :)

Awwwwwwww, how considerate.
That's one I really hate! A zed (yes, zed, not zee) in there just looks wrong.

I am not a fan of repgeek myself, but if you post trash posts to get your post count up so you can sell i would have thought you would look like a scammer.

I appreciate that you are not, but what are they supposed to think ?

Or what action are they supposed to take to protect the membership?

I think they are too quick to ban people over there from what i have read in the past but in this instance it looks right.

GLWS!

Actually, I happened upon a his post where he was wondering why he wasn't able to post in the For Sale section.

At the time I noticed it he was at 97 posts. So he couldn't have done very many useless posts before he got banned. Banning does seem a little excessive if he's only throwing in a few posts to get up to a 100. Worst case IMO is they should have reset his post count back to 0.

Actually sendai, you did mass post; cool, +1, me like, I want one of them, lovely, explorers rule, great franken,... for multiple dozens of posts in about an hour, you ballsed up the order of postings in 3 main parts of the forum to get to the 100.

Now I didn't report it, but it was noticed by the mods and others and it does piss off. You go to respond to a current thread and you suddenly notice its 3 pages down. I'm not surprised you got a ban, it has happened before and it would happen on most of the other forums. Nothing wrong with lots of postings but the vast majority on this occasion were barely relevant and you had an ulterior motive for doing it.

The OP could have just ponied up and paid the $25 to get full membership, rather than bumping old posts or commenting irrelevantly on others.
