Bangkok - What and where, if anything, available?

I can definitely recommend MBK in Bangkok. I know that this mall is mostly known for AAA cheap fakes. Many of these watch shops there have the cheap reps (50-150 Euro) on display and try to sell primarily these to customers.

What many do not know: On demand, many watch shops also have the high end reps from the well-known factories.

They simply earn more from the mass of cheap reps, which they usually sell to ignorant tourists, than from the high end reps. And hardly any tourist who has no idea about the good reps is prepared to spend 700 Euro on a CF Daytona.

But the good reps are available, you just have to ask for them. I like to go to this shop on the 3rd floor, unfortunately I can't remember the name, but I've been there for years. Very nice couple who are happy to advise you for an hour and put many available models from CF, BTF, VSF, C+, ZF on the table. I was there last time in March and will be back in December. Here is a photo of the shop, unfortunately I don't have a better one:

Prices: The prices are about the same as at our TD incl. shipping. Sometimes a little lower, sometimes slightly higher. You can also negotiate a little bit. You can examine the respective specimen directly and take it with you. And it's really a lot of fun.

Some sellers in MBK have access to *some* high quality reps. Best time to have a conversation about those is when it's quiet.

They want to sell you the shitters - they have easy access to these and make a decent margin.

Whoever said the love to haggle is wrong, they'd much rather get the max they can. The real key in bargaining is to know what is a reasonable discount and remain friendly, smiling and positive throughout.

An example! The last time I was bargaining we were laughing because I was was buying a clone LV bag for a friend and when they told me the price I looked shocked and said 'Oh no, I am very poor!', and then we went back and forth laughing for a bit before we settled on a price.

Getting angry or aggressive gets you worse discounts, worse service and you end up having a shitty shopping experience. Watching some of the European tourists over their treat the local vendors like shit was pretty rough, but then when I saw them paying double for shitter-level reps I felt a little better...

I was in that mall 2 weeks ago. The shop pictured above is one of the better ones, on the other side of that floor are many more shops, with more aggressive/tout like staff who will enthusiastically verbally encourage you to come look at their wares.

Couldnt find a VSF 126610, but got offered a Clean version in a few stores. (Was wearing a gen for comparison). The hulks,, Starbucks and Pepsis’ I saw were all off I. Some way or other, usually colour. Best rep I saw in a few stores was a superseded 116610, can’t remember the factory. Some OP’s looked very close, black or silver seemed most accurate. If you find yourself in that mall, expect to pay 10% - 30% higher than direct, after all they are sourcing from the same place.

Most stores will start 50% - 100% over TD prices, be forearmed with price knowledge before you negotiate, and don’t be a dick about letting the shop make a few bucks, everyone has to eat… Most stores seemed very surprised when I was able to bring up various rep factory offerings on my iPad in front of them, to indicate their first price may be a little optimistic….

Oh and bring a loupe, the shop person will hopefully stop trying to sell you superseded variants or older stock at that point. Make it clear you are looking for the very latest and best version available.

Go to the 3rd floor in the MBK. The last shop left aside from the elevators has the same super clone lineups available that you'll find at your preferred TD. This shop seems to feed all the other shops stocks, so thas where I got the best choice and stock availability. The good thing is I could look at 7 different gmt Batmans and chose the best to my expectations, they even agree to swap bracelets for your convenience and agree to open the case for you to have a look with their magnifier, what else for a proper QC! I paid same price as TD including the shipping costs, that I consider a fair dealer commission, but negotiation down to this price took time and diplomacy. Always display respect and come with what you are ready to spend in cash, not more ;-). Paying with card is charged with a 5 to 10% increase. Enjoy the experience, it's best to go in the morning.
I have not been entirely satisfied with my previous online orders, the online QC is great but can hide a few hiccups. I just could say, with the usual precaution, that the stock was top notch for the reason it will be physically in your hand..
