Dear RWI colleagues,

I will be purchasing my first gen Panerai soon, but wanted to get your general opinion:

WHICH PANERAI MODEL GIVES THE MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK?

I have given this quite a bit of thought since I first caught the Panerai bug back in 2017 --- thanks to the rep game really (first watch purchased in the MBK center in Bangkok, Thailand - noob pam111 v3).

Things to consider before purchase.

1) general daily wearability and usability
2) wrist size (mine is 16cm, and often switch between 44mm and 47mm, and I do not consider 42mm a real pam)
3) watch coolness (which drops the most panties most often)
4) watch resell-ability, or overall investment value
5) buy used or new
6) what else am I always forgetting?

I have a few candidates in mind, but would love to first hear the general opinion of the forum on this most important matter.

Oh, and let's pretend there is no budget limitation.

Thanks

Hello!

Of course, many of your points are quite relative, as they depend on personal preferences and opinions, but to get into everything, I would draw a circle like this: Almost any T pam in the period 1998 - 2005.
It will almost always be beautiful, not always expensive, will keep the price, and also mean suitable options for everyday use.

Of course, there are many models that are quite desirable and meet the requirements in other categories, but this is already a point choice.

Excellent, I didn't have that option on my radar. Thanks!

Most bang for buck is probably the 372, considered one of the quintessential pams and a firm paneristi favourite. It’s relatively cheap!

Maybe also consider the 422 - essentially the same as the 372, though you also get the LMP dial, seconds subdial and the cool PR indicator on the movement bridge. Roughly the same price (used) as the 372 and I've seen them as low as $5500 from authorized dealers.

Nice.... forgot about that PR meter. Worth considering!!!

What does LMP mean?

+1
But the 372 is also timeless and suitable for every occasion ;)

If we talk about HW PAM, then I would choose PAM001/002 with T dial. If L, then PAM116/118.

If you take automatics, there are a lot of very interesting options, like PAM093/PAM086/PAM091/PAM171 and many others, which, however, may be rarer and more expensive, not to mention the T dials A and B series PAM027/PAM028/PAM029/PAM023, depending on your relationship with the REP of these models.

Also, in my opinion, very good travel of T submersibles in a 44mm case, for example PAM025/PAM170/PAM106, maybe even PAM199. If the budget allows, then PAM087 D&E series, with an old dial that was not well repped.

If we talk about 47mm, then depending on the budget, it's hard to imagine something better than PAM202/PAM225/PAM194 as GEN.

Again, it's all down to personal preference, and I'm excluding models that are reproduced by rep factories in sufficient quality to make buying a gen a truly new and positive experience.

The 1086 (p6000 movement and 10 bar) came out last but is it good for you? comparable to the 390?

Then it's more expensive, and with black hands, which IMHO is better: PAM590 or PAM915.

By the way, if you are not embarrassed by the case with WR100 and springbars, then from relatively modern models PAM00632 is a good move with a unique design, not a high price, and in the absence of analogues in this design, it has an unexpectedly short production period and circulation, relative to other models of this generation.

I tried on a 914 the other day that looked very nice.
