Why not call Aust Post and ask them?
They might be able to shed some light on the situation rather than guessing.

Their phone number is 131318

I have used Registered International heaps. If you call, it will probably be a woman called Elaine or a guy called Michael (memory???) who will answer. They are both excellent.
Registered post is NOT a tracked service but it is very reliable. Entering the number will tell you that it has been lodged (by you) and when it has been signed for at the other end. Sometimes it takes a few days for both of these to show up. It is not really part of the service and there is no mention of any tracking.
The phone people are great. I spoke to Elaine about 20 minutes ago about one of mine going to the States.
As Meta4 said. Give them a call.

The prepaid International envelopes are not bad value for money.
As you say, around $20 for anything under $500.
They are not officially a tracked service but they are certainly tracked by Australia Post and I have never had one go missing or even be late.
The good thing about being able to enter the number and see that it has been delivered is that no one can BS you about not receiving it.
One thing I will say is that the phone service is excellent, and they pick up pretty quickly too, BUT, they do like you to wait a reasonable time before calling. eg. Don't call 3 days after you have posted and expect much assistance. Only because they have nothing really to tell you.
I find it the cheapest, ultra reliable option. After that you are looking at around $40+ for Express Post International. More for Express Courier International.

ha....yes, more details. I should write a tute. I've made just about every mistake in the book when it comes to International shipping. I've got it down to a fine (and affordable) art now.
