I doubt that's a reason because making the first batch a different DW does not change the fact that it's a Gen so I see no point in that. It doesn't stop reps from adjusting the DW later on in production so that doesn't make much sense if it was actually a strategy. Who determines if a DW is wrong then since technically the first batch by AP is a different one ?? I doubt AP have the rep market in mind when producing a watch, their main aim is to satisfy their customers and for the good of the brand and obviously profit, the issue of reps is an after thought to them and comes later on , not priority ......
I am still very much under the impression they care very little about the rep game at all. First, the same cliental are not buying the watches. Sure a rep may look good but I would never choose it over a gen if I was in the position to buy a gen right now. Honestlty, I had no clue AP existed until I started buying rep Omega's and got more into the game. Now they are my most coveted gen brand next to Patek.
