for Hammies, since we're not talking about reps anymore, you can opt to go into dealers to buy it new and negotiate down 30%, or goto amazon.com, they usually have it @ 20-30% discount

or check out Ebay/timezone for hammies. i dont think they make hammie reps for u to get ripped off?

or check with goat dweller, he has a hammie for sale.

yeah, dropping that much on an unknown site is hazardous.

You all have been great mentors for me...thanks. I will check ebay and amazon to see what they have for sale. I will also be patient to see what I can find in a hammie maestro in black. Bluefakes did have a Japanese version for $299 but they claimed the quality was crap.

Thanks for the advise...

As I stick around here awhile (Hi! I'm James. . .and I may be addicted to reps!) you'll probably see me bumping up old threads. I apologize! I just like to try and do as much searching (my homework!) as possible before asking a question!

Anyhow. . .back to Swiss ETA vs Asian. Anyone have any experience with ordering the "Asian 2824 Clone Automatic movement" vs "Swiss ETA-2824-2 Automatic Movement" from Angus at puretime?

Perhaps some of the talk of movements was clear when originally discussed, but lurking through the mucky waters of old posts it gets a little confusing.

First we have Swiss ETA
then we have Asian 2824 clones?
then. . .do we ALSO have FAKE ETAs that are trying to be passed off as real Swiss? Or are these what Angus is calling "Asian Clone?"

For $40 more, (looking at the UPO on his site) it seems like a no brainer to get the better movement (if it IS better). If it's a choice between an "Asian Clone" and a FAKE "Swiss ETA," though. . .then i would think my $40 would be wasted.

Any thoughts?

1- stay away from Bluefakes
2- find dealer here to be safe and pay the best price
3- If not a dealer then find member looking to trade or sell what you want.
4- enjoy the hobby!

I think that Visioneer was already steered away from bluefakes. :) Like I said, old post. Any thoughts about Puretime's "Swiss ETA-2824-2" being the actual Swiss version? I'm sure that even the dealers can be misled sometimes, so has anyone bought these or have any insight?
