Hi all,

Having been anyway from this website for a long time ive started creeping around again looking at getting my second Rolex, but after much deliberation im looking at an AP.

My knowledge is basic but i have all the fundamentals down, im just after a little more insight and info.

https://www.intime01.co/audemars-pi...on-blue-dial-on-blue-leather-strap-a3120.html

This is the watch im looking at getting but i feel that the blue strap will look almost alien to the watch and dial.. I also looked at getting the RG version with brown strap but unsure again how all these would look in person.... TD picture are usually rubbish.

Ive searched around and looked at many peoples posts and was wondering if anyone else could chim in with their knowledge.

Thanks

Lewis.

The rep leather straps you get from the China factories are all shit. To do the watch justice, you would have to bin the strap and get a custom made one from a trusted strap maker. Therefore, I wouldn't get too hung up over what the rep strap will look like.

The bracelet is what makes the RO IMO.

Good luck

The new JF 15400 is a superb rep, with among the best finishing quality of anything out there in repdom. The 15450 doesn’t get the same love, and there isn’t nearly the amount of information available on it as its larger cousin. I’d love to hear opinions from anyone who has the 37mm JF as to the fit and finish quality, since the 41mm is just too big for some folks, especially with the peculiarities inherent to the Royal Oak case and bracelet design.

I've owned x2 15450s and x6 15400s.

Overall the 15450 has basically the exact same quality finishing as the 15400s. They "feel" the same to me (in terms of quality).

The 15450 has much better "Swiss made" and minute markers (i.e. More crisp paint). Perhaps 15450 looks more crisp because it's smaller?

I feel like the 15400 crystal is clearer but it could just look that way due to difference in size

I concur. I had 2 15400 ( a TF with 2xAR and a JF stock) but I felt they were (and wear) too big for my wrist. So i now have a 15450 which is indeed small so it might put you off at the beginning, but in terms of quality has nothing less than his bigger brother. And sits much better on my wrist.

i wish we had this level of quality in a 15202 or 15300. that would be the perfect Royal Oak for me.

^completely agree.

A decent 15300 would be absolutely perfect!

The 15450 is perhaps a little small for my taste and the 15400 is just too big for what it is.

15450 rep is too thick, the gen is much slimmer. Anyone with gen 15XXX series will know you're wearing a rep since most of them are super slim. Get 15400, but not blue dial. The blue dial is not even close to gen, white or black will be easier to bypass trained eyes.

Thanks, really appreciate the input. Was one of the 15450's the current JF version, by chance? I've been hoping a blue dial, JF 15450 would show up M2M, but I've been watching for quite a while, and haven't seen anything. Guess I'll have to hit up Angus for one.

Really trying to be a lot more selective with my purchases these days, as the collection is getting a bit out of control (though I know very well that there are members on here with three, four, or more times as many reps as I have. I think the largest collection I've seen to date on here is around 150 reps. Of course, I've got a plastic surgeon friend that has over 300 GENS! And I'm not talking about Timex or Citizens, lol. He has at least a dozen that I know are in the six figure range. But he also made an absolute fortune buying and selling art over the last 20 years, so I guess it's all just play money to him. Insane.

Brother, I second that! I've been waiting for the new "ultra-thin" movement that's supposedly in development for the Nautilus and AP's-- I'd love nothing more than to see a 15202 with JF quality case and bracelet and a dial that actually has the correct "petit tapisserie" pattern, color, etc. I'm not holding my breath though, lol.

Can you show us a wristshot from both 15400 and 15450 ? Can hardly imagine the real size difference on the wrist

37mm is a small watch, it will look like a ladies size on a men's wrist. I have a Rolex 6263 Franken and it is around 37.8mm, it looks super tiny compared to my other APs, even with the 15400 it looks enormously large. Hence I always recommended to get the 15202 or 15400, except the 15202 has too many flaws now unless JF reps it. But when will it come out, who will know...

I don't have the 15450 anymore but it looked like a ladies watch even on my 6.8".

15450 is probably for guys 6.5" and less. I know 37mm sounds small, but with those big lugs it probably wears like a 39mm watch.

I'm also looking into 15450s but I can't decide between dial colour. White looks great but a big flashy. I'd prefer blue but some people say it's way off compared to the gen, us that correct?

Get the gray dial, looks classy.

Just a reminder on the 15450, take a look at the bracelet before you buy. The size of the 15450 head is great, but the bracelet has a lot of taper to it, to the point where it looks a bit delicate at the clasp. Fit and finish is brilliant though.

I'm probably getting a 15202 quartz, while I wait for a proper JF...

The JF 15450 has absolutely the same quality as the 15400. I even like the printed logo and minute markers better on the 15450 because they are more crisp.
I would say "bullshit" about the "never get the blue dial" comments, because even AP used different color shades and the hue changes due to lightning.
In general the RO wears larger. I am happy with the 15450 for my 7'' wrist. Probably also because I don't like those big hiphop watches.

I had my first unpleasant situation today as I met someone with a 15202 gen and it was the first time I was scared to get busted. The color of our dials looked identical, but the case of my rep is just sooo thick. Major flaw will always be the thickness of the 15450 and not some slightly differences in the hue of the dial. But I would be also scared with the 15400, which is just slightly thicker.
As probably every AP fan in this forum I would love to cop a 15202 in gen thickness. Maybe dreams come true and JF will build it somewhen ... :)

Anyone who came across gen on wrist would be sacred, gen is really gen for a whole good reason. Their watches always look far immaculate and super slim. As for blue dial, in my opinion is really not close to gen as ive compared my rep with a gen outside an AD. Somehow the rep's tappiserie is all wrong, even how the light shines and goes around it is wrong.

I'm secretly hoping there will be a high end 3rd party 15400 dial, like Phong for vintage rolex replacement parts. This way we dont have to bet on JF, since its a long shot.
