Nice contrast - i think the black and Rg would go well together, although not my cup-of-tea...

Good reps all-in-all, but the movement has extra gears to drive the secs at 12 and can be problematic if not serviced and maintained properly...

Guru is an expert on AP... Kepp that in mind ;) Also, check the AP sub forum for more info :)

i was in the market for similar RG but the Montoya model. Is the movement a cause for concern?

Propably not a huge one but it would be sensible to get it serviced by a mod so it will run even smoother

Has anyone any comments on the quality of the gold plating on these reps? If its genuine 18k rose gold used to plate I guess that's the only way to get the colour correct. How about durability? Flaking off, chips etc?

I like the combination of the gold and the rubber myself. The problem is, I am not the gold guy, I have a nice HBB in RG and a IWC in RG and I may use these watches twice a year.
Regarding the quality, I never heard anything bad about the Gold coming off. No problems with my watches, but as I said, I hardly wear them.
I think this is a watch for the weekend, not a daily beater.

I don't think those are gold wrapped but rather just coated.

Maybe we'll wait for some subject matter experts now to chime in on the actual plating process.

I see that dealers advertise "thick plating" and "10 microns". Ok, so we have a number there but how is one to tell that 5 is not good and 10 is good.

I remember the days of picking up nasty Breitlings that were cheap. Still have them now, automative movements, good details etc but dealer was telling me he was selling to me for $40 because of the plating. He assured me that the plating wasn't going to last, and its not polished stainless steel but tin plated on top of some cheap bare metal (can't remember the details).

Anyway he was a honest guy and I believed him, after all he was upfront on what's good and what's not. But as a walk in location he usually does not stock the expensive stuff, just cheaper and mid range ones.
