Whether you’re a fan of Gérald Genta’s designs or not, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is one of the most successful and popular watches of all time. Its place on the wrists of businessmen, musicians, and athletes since its introduction in the early 1970s has elevated the watch to a legendary status rarely seen in the world of horology. In 1993, Audemars Piguet decided that it was time to extend the family and introduce a younger sibling of the Royal Oak to the market. The Royal Oak Offshore — which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2018 — was a gutsy move at the time, but over 120 references later, the Royal Oak’s flashier little brother is an unquantifiable success. During SIHH in January, Audemars Piguet will be unveiling three new limited-edition Offshore models that embrace the Royal Oak personality while continuing to move its design identity forward.

The last two are interesting, kinda like what would happen if an AP ROO and a Concord C1 were to meet and get it on.

Shame that those tourbillon editions will only ever be done in cheap ass quartz versions with a more flaws than a $10 hooker whose toothless crackmouth has a less crooked look than any rep of that oddly designed bezel.

Classic design, but yeah I agree with you. If they'd made a "blue batons" in the 44mm design that would have been something. AP has shown a marked lack of innovation and creativity since Octavio Garcia left. Octavio single-handedly revived the brand on the 15300/15400, the RO 40th, ROO 44 mm, and the ROO face-lift, and the only things they've done since then that didn't outright suck were re-issues of his designs in different materials and finishes.

If rumours are true (and they are not really rumours as they come from AP’s leadership), 2018 ROO editions should be interesting because of the in-house integrated chrono movement... I look forward to that. But then again, how are JF going to fit a 7750 into a (truly?!) slimmer case...

Blue Batons was replicated by Noob a long time ago with a 7750. It is long out of stock. MBW also replicated the Blue Batons with a LWO283 and gen dial, but they only produced about 6 units. Of course, Audemars issued the watch in 1993, then reissued a limited edition of 20 in 2000/2001, and now reissued it in 2018 as part of their 25th Offshore celebration.

I knew one member who had a MBW Blue Batons, but I forget his name, sorry. It was a long time ago and alot of people pass through me. I remember he was a very proud to own it, as it is a piece of rep history, with the first case with repositioned crown tube, but the case was not thinned. I told the story of the Blue Batons in the now deleted sticky Reference Guide. Personally, Blue Batons gen dial/tachy was the first gen dial I ever bought, many years ago, for around $200 for the set. I never made it into a Franken, but I am not going to sell the set: its value has risen quite alot over the years. People used to laugh at me when I said 5 years ago that the value of gen AP and Rolex watch parts would go up on the grey market. I think history proved my point, and a capital gain of 600% is not bad over 5 years.
