Any love for an early 90's ETA 7750-based Daytona replica?

Hi there.

I'm not new in watch collecting, but I inherited my father's replica Rolex Daytona he bought in the early nineties (I think). He was convinced it was the real deal. It wasn't of course.

This one has a modified 7750 movement where they moved the 'hour' subdial to the 6 o'clock position. I tried to find out more about the movement and found that in the same era a company called released some watches with the same movement and similar modification: https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/solved-test-typ-a-eta-7750-3-6-9-no-date.5425591/

I joined this forum to try to find out more about it.

Although it's not the Roll's Royce amongst watches, for me it's a Lexus. It's the new king of my collection, just above my Stowa ETA 2824-2 Flieger.

If you're not going to post pictures of your 30+ year old daytona rep, then you're just edging us. Let's see it!

Also, does the 7750 still run and work as it should?

Well, all the naysayers about the A7750's quality over the years can shut their mouths.

I have a one myself that is over 10 years old, never serviced and still functioning perfectly.

This watch was used and not maintained. But honestly, the watch maker could see/hear that. But it's still keeping time and the stop watch works.

M understanding is that the 7750 is a solid, proven movement. The Asian clones of it are a bit less hardy, and less so when they’ve been modified (like the OP’s).

Still, if you don’t use the chrono feature (which…let’s face it, hardly any Gen owners even do), there’s no reason to believe it can’t last a very long time, with the occasional service.

This is the common thought on the a7750 these days.

However, there was a solid 10 years of people shitting on them, "is the a7750 going to explode" threads were nearly as popular as "who has the best sub?"

The issue back then and what still exists today is that they are quite dirty and certain parts are of low quality and prone to breakage.

That being said, it would seem that some of them must be made with higher levels of qc and it's luck of the draw.

I'm getting it serviced, so let's see what comes out of it.
