This is something I never got into. Ever since I got into watches back in the early 2000's ive only liked the newest stuff. I feel like the 2006-2010 era of watches from basically every single brand was the golden era.

Nowadays, getting back into it and trying to stick to a small collection/rotation I think a vintage sub/gmt/dd/dj would be perfect to fill the role as "beater/sports" watch. So id prefer something that isnt going for 100grand+ in todays market lol.

Anything out there that TD's are selling?

cheers

The Daytona with the seagull st19xx is my favorite vintage rep currently being sold. I think it’s also called a Venus 75

Surely in that era the new BP 16610 (and family), 16710 and 16600 are the ones to go for?
Yes, good point. I didn't really read the OP's OP particularly thoroughly and failed to register his "2006-2010" comment. Although it's funny to think of this as "vintage" (re. the thread title)... By that definition I qualify as an ancient artefact.

With specific reference to that era, the new BPs would deffo be the way to go!

I think the ARF 16610 is the only decent 5 digit release that is currently available.

Everything else that is vintage (4 or 5-digits) from TDs is bad right out of the box, in my opinion.

BP 16710 / 16610 / 16570 / 16600 (their latest version with stubby cg) do not cut it for me, unfortunately.

Also a very good point, for anyone with a critical eye. Fortunately, my eyes (now officially registered as an ancient monument) are less discerning of the finer details, and I've always been partial to a BP bargain...

But ARF (isn't it RAF now?) with their JF 5-digit legacy are certainly a better rep for the discerning buyer, particularly if modding/Frankening is on the cards.

Looking for out of the box and decent modern kind of quality with good market alignments, dw alignment etc.
a 1675 gmt would be great but dont want to try and put gen parts on it to fix major flaws.

Big thread in the 5 digits
Thread 'BP Re-Releases 5-Digit Submariners with VR3135'

By and large, people are happy including veteran members.

For a GMT 1675, I would personally go the way of a modder order…but also I don’t like two color bezels, so this is a moot point for me 😂

If you really want a good vintage watch, you really have to build it. There’s just not enough demand for factories to gear up for it and perfect the little details.

Fortunately, there’s good raw materials to work with for not too much money if you look on the usual sites (Cartel, Raffles, AliX and EBay).

You are right…but for us people who can shape a CG, it’s not much of a problem 😅 but indeed then it’s not OOTB
Haha it can look good with some mods.

But even with some case reshaping, I think the bp 16610 and 16710 still suffer from having rehauts being too wide. This is unsightly for some people who are used to looking at gen/modded/superfrankens.

The last time I tried, a gen 16610 dial fell through the bp 16613 and 16610's rehaut. However this may have changed in their latest production batch.

Also, what is wrong with bp still using those bezel wire bezel assembly in their latest 16710 And 16600. It's now 2024 damnit. The bezel wire bezel assemblies were pre-2016 tech. not to mention, the latest bp 16600 is a massive downgrade compared to their previous version. And don't get me started with their latest 16610 which uses 116610 bezel construction lol.

Nonetheless, i praise BP for still making obscure rolex models like 116400 and 16600 when other factories predominantly focus on 6 digits Rolex. Also, BP's gold plating and colour seems durable and accurate (and even better than vsf's 116618 lol)

If you really want a good vintage watch, you really have to build it. There’s just not enough demand for factories to gear up for it and perfect the little details.
Sadly, this seems to be quite true for 5 and 4 digits rolex. But i could imagine how nice it could be if clean and vsf started making 1675, 16610, 5513, etc.
