"PERFECT" Panny reps??

You do spot fakes on the Risti site and on Timezone every couple of weeks-

Heck I've posted a few just to see if i could get away with it- of course no one noticed-

But yeah- serial #'s are obvious, The movement finishing on the pans is SOOOOO much better, dead giveaway.

But what would it take to commission one or two models of "Ultimate" Panerai reps??

If you're gonna really pull it off don't clone the $10,000 Fiddy- Do a 111, do a 104, do a 183, do a 025- affordable gens.

You know- Perfect 1:1, perfect movement finishing and individual serials??

I'm happy to donate a slew of high res studio shots of my own gens if it helps-

I think a $600 PERFECT pan would be a lot more appealing to me than a $300 so-so fake.

That's how I feel. I wish someone would fix the center bridge and stamp the OFFICINE PANERAI correctly. Can't be that expensive to offer a movement with better fit/finish?? It's getting there though. Davidsen's stuff looks better and better each day!!

I felt embarrassed to read the comments. Please guys stop posting reps in gen forums. Just not good.

I retract that I said it was you. I still say it is STUPID though.

Well, it is a cool design, but anyone who has a background in miltaria and/or bridles & tack could also have come up with this design quite easily and independently as it follows some basic design principles that have been used & done the same way for ages.

For example: German mess kit and utility straps, blanket roll straps, utility straps used with German engineer shovel, various chinstraps on helmets, rifle slings and all manner of variuos countries and time periods of leather gear.

There is no proprietary buckle style being copied (well maybe Panerai's :) ), or special type of leather, etc being used here regardless of who showcased the "design" on our forums first. Unless that person obtained a patent or copyright on the design, then there isn't much else to complain about. It's not the Jarvik heart we are talking about, but a simple strap design that has been done before or was influenced by styles that came before it.

Personally, I find the style too simplistic for my tastes in a Pam, but as Enzo states, it gives a "tool watch" look to a vintage style Panerai. I even remember him stating that he wanted the design to almost replicate what the soldier could make himself as a stop gap or replacement strap more or less. So what would the soldier turn to for the raw materials? See above--first two paragraphs :)

As far as posting a rep watch on a gen forum--silly idea. Yes, I saw VDB's post too--his sub and his straps--but it was asking for trouble to show that rep too! I'm not sure if they tore him up or not, but please guys, use commomn sense. There are some unwritten rules of co-existence :)

I agree with CJ, stupid as a box of nails to post a rep watch there.
Whoever is doing it, posts straps only if straps are what you want to show there.
Posting the back of the watch was not an enlightened manuever.

I was thinking about the serial number issue a while ago and wondered if dealer could supply casebacks sans serials, and someone with a laser engraver could do custom numbered casebacks.

I'd be up for that. I think DSN is trying - but QC would need to be lifted, and maybe that could be done at a price level up.

Yes, we know it's not you PANERA.

Posting the rep shots was not smart. Creates a back-blast.

We also seem to have some members here with "split personality disorder" posting concurrently on both gen and rep forums, bashing all things reps on gen forum while at the same time glorifying them and writing about them a lot here :x

Not cool at all IMO.
