I've just purchased the Pladen case as I read it was thinner. May potentially investigated swapping the crystal also if that's as thick as some say it is. Ultimately trying to get the total thickness on par with the actual Speedy.

One of the issues I gather with the Pladen case is the obtrusive pushers. Has anyone had any luck swapping pushers out on these sorts of builds to resemble the more subdued genuine Speedy look? I assume it's theoretically possible, just be interested to hear if anyone has actually done it themselves?

The Pladen isn't half bad - it definitely is potentially one of the more accurate case options. It's 14.5mm thick with the huge bubble crystal that it comes with, which is 4.7mm on its own - swapping that out for a flatter one could pretty easily bring the overall case thickness down to gen size.

I never got around to trying that myself (gifted the Pladen build I had to a friend and didn't want them to have to wait 4-6 weeks for a new crystal to come in) but I measured the crystal at around 32.2mm, and it just popped right out of the case quite easily.

The biggest issue with the Pladen by far is the fact that two of the black bezeled options I received back in the day (and thus returned) came with the entire bezel being black (instead of steel with a black bezel insert) - it's quite a strange look that I've never seen before and that wasn't present on the Pladens originally, so I'm hoping it's just one weird batch that'll eventually get sold through and go back to being normal.

The blue bezel is fine, but it is quite a deep blue rather than navy in case folks are looking for a particular shade.

The Pladen is also theoretically more cheaply made all around - from what I've heard it's likely a plated alloy rather than actual steel (not sure how much that matters in grand scheme of things, perhaps for longevity's sake, but it's what I've heard) and it lacks pretty much all water-resistance since neither the crown nor the caseback are screw down (the caseback is a flat Pagani dupe that pops off like a pressure fit).

Thanks mate, this is good intel.

I will likely return them if I also get the funky bezel option - fingers crossed.

Noted on the build quality. Realistically if I'm buying a $20 shitter moonswatch to put in here, I'm really not that bothered if its metal home is also a POS haha just a bit of fun.

i would not buy the Pladen

Anything specifically you're not a fan of?
