An expensive lesson and a warning to all

Recently I decided to sell my Franken Omega as I needed a new computer. Arrangements were made with a trusted member to sell said watch to. Member was in a hurry to get the watch as they were to leave town in a few days and wanted to get it before they left town. Being it was going to a small town from my small town, my Postmaster suggested I send it Express(next day) so it would get there within 2 days. So I put out the 27 bucks on my dime to send it to the trusted long time member here and since it was a small PO, I figured if he had to sign for it he may not get it before he left town. Away it went and sure enough like the Postmaster said it took 2 days before the package arrived and was marked delivered. No money had been sent on their end, even though I was told it had been sent.
I spoke with the Trusted member and he said he received a package but not the one I sent, even though it was marked as delivered.
Well Express mail has insurance with it but since the watch was delivered I can not collect on the insurance. I even called the Postmaster where the package was sent and they remembered the Trusted member saying it was not in the locker in which they told me they had placed it and other packages for him. They assure me it was delivered but the trusted member declares it wasn't put in the locker with his packages and has told me he has filed with the Postal inspectors to find out what happened to the package but I haven't heard from him since I told him my finding about it being delivered. He didn't care for my accusations, but all I said was what was told me. So now I am out 527 bucks(I had 685 in the watch), the watch and perhaps any hope of even getting anything back from this deal. So let this be a lesson. NEVER, I repeat NEVER send a package without requiring the member sign for it no matter how long he has been a member here or how trusted he is. It'll save your trust and any friendship regardless if it inconviences the member receiving the watch.
As for adding insurance if it gets marked as"delivered" no matter how much insurance you have on the watch the post office will not pay. Also you will need receipts to collect on lost packages and that is where it can get tricky dealing with rep watches even if they have been frankened. Keep those Original parts receipts you'll need them to collect.

You said, no money had been snt on their end.

Why did you send the watch???

When I have sold, I make damn sure the buyers money is in my Paypal account and all is good, then I ship.

Also, if the guy needed it in a rush, why you pay the express shipping?

Well, I guess lesson learned.

Yeah always make sure the money has been sent and you can see it, and get the buyer to foot the express shipping. Also the signing is good too.

Disappointing to hear, but why would you send a watch without payment? Also I can't see your sales thread, was it a back door sale

I've shipped watches without payment, to people that I know very well. Mostly local. But it's a risk I assume. I am aware about the insurance issue. It just happened to me with an IPhone I sold on Ebay. Frankly, anytime you ship outside the US , or with the USPS, you are playing Russian roulette. It's just a matter of time till we lose a watch.

I sent the watch without getting payment first as I had dealt with him on many occasions and had no reason not to trust he would send payment. In fact there was a history with him and the watch. He is a long time member here and trusted. I'm oly posting this to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Might happen again if we don't know who the Op is, I can understand about payment now if you have dealt with the op before and there was a level of trust, so was it a back door sale?

Always 2 sides to a story, just saying.

IT was a saleback to it's original owner. I had been thinking of selling when when I was contacted to sell it back. I am not gonna post the trusted members info as what he says could very well be true and I do not want to tarnish an otherwise trusted member. This is just a warning so such actions will not happen to anyone else.

Fair enough bud I'm not gonna try and drag it out of you but would suggest you take out a help desk ticket and a mod will hopefully look into it, I'm sorry what you have lost.

Turns out trusted member is no longer here. His profile is marked " I'm banned". So perhaps my instincts albeit a bit late were justified. Ouch.

Tell the post office to check their shelves in back - that's where the package I mailed sat for 10 days with them repeatedly telling me it was delivered.

I think the true lesson learned here is that even though this was a member that you have dealt with in the past and is trusted...blah blah blah x..y..z

...This is the internet, welcome...:howdy:
Enjoy your stay, don't be foolish.

Don't get me wrong, I hate that his happened to you.
We are however privileged to have a great A+ staff to support us, take the ticket out and go from there.

That's weird. A couple days ago I came across a post from him and noticed it said "I'm banned". When I looked at his post count and rep points I thought to myself he must of done something very wrong.
