Two knives came in I thought I would share. I purchased these from the Ali seller "bladeart". Typical air mail hkpost turnaround time, otherwise all smooth.
The Benchmade Vex is a knife I always liked but felt I was being disloyal to Spyderco by purchasing a BM with a Spyder hole. The days of blind allegiance are over and I'm much happier trying and collection a variety. This is coming from the same factory that made the gen when BM produced it. The knife model is 10750 and also is available in a very handsome tanto grind also, model 10751. I will be ordering another one of these along with a tanto version. Not because this knife really excels in any catagory, mostly because I like it, I like tanto tip grinds, and I can see myself EDC'ing them. I've sold off most of my knife collection... Lots of nice blades that just sat around being box queens isn't fun.
G10 is alright, the knife is as I said pretty much the same as the OEM Vex, although the maker did change the grind angle on the 10750. The knife only allows for tip down carry. The blade ergonomics make for fairly easy deployment ala the spyderco-like hole (which I prefer to thumb studs) and comes shaving sharp out of the box. The action is pretty rough which was a complaint with the original retail Vex also. I disassembled the pivot, polished the metal washer, lubricated and reassembled. Now deploying the blade is very smooth. Note that the blade rides on one metal washer and one nylon/teflon. The jimping is rounded and useless. The black blade finish is not rugged and scratches easily. The steel is fairly soft so there will be some edge maintenance necessary, though this doesn't bother me. Most likely it is the 8cr14mov that was used on the original production run. I did some pretty rough testing on the blade and was able to ding the edge a few times battoning it against rocks. I did this for my own interest, I wanted to know how this knife will hold up before I ordered more for EDC rotation. Overall it's not the best but it's a lot of knife for the money. It is what Benchmade intended it to be, a handsome budget knife made to compete against the Spyderco Tenacious. Overally, I really like it. For $13, it's a steal. Considering BM no longer makes the Vex and they hardly ever show up for sale online anymore, I was more than excited when I saw them available on Ali.

The other knife is the RAT-1 AUS8 from the same seller. This is a large knife that reminds me of Ontario sitting down and trying to make something like the Spyderco Military. The story of this knife is that it is slightly larger than the genuine version although it's not determined why the maker did that as they more than likely are the OEM. Improvement over the original? Maybe. It's a big knife. Thick heavy steel liners that should've been skeletonized for weight reduction. Beefy G10 digi-camo scales. Thick Aus8 blade. The blade is perfectly ground and was razor sharp out of the box. Everything is finished beautifully and overall the knife is well made and stout. I have several aus8 knives and am confident this is aus8 or comparable 440. It's holding a good edge, looks well made, and IMO it wouldn't be worth the trouble trying to source something cheaper when they are ordering/stocking/using a particular steel in the factory 24/7. They are going to use what they have, they know, and they are calibrated for.
The pocket clip is a joke. So thin I just bent it upward then took it off. I have a replacement on the way from Ontario. four position carry, so however you like it you can wear it. Again, this is a full size beast so if that's not comfortable for you, then be warned. Brass washers on both sides, smooth deployment, perfectly centered blade with great lockup. Another successful Ali purchase, If you're looking for a beefy pocket folder or your a fan of the RAT series definitely check it out. Before you do, keep in mind you can buy a "gen" one from a reputable dealer for little expense so this may not be the smartest Ali knife purchase cost% wise. Gen's can be had for $27 on Amazon, this knife was $19 on Ali. I was more interested in trying the Ali version due to the larger size and to investigate if it is in fact from the same maker. I cannot determine that, but it's a rock solid knife I would purchase again.
Here's some pics of the RAT1. I have two more knives coming that I will take some pics and post impressions of when they arrive. The Spyderco Vallatton and Spyderco Military should be here anytime.
