I noticed that quite some guys here made pictures of their watches together with toy guns - BB or airsoft as they are called.
Always thought these were merely for children or for decoration until I found these videos on youtube... The video is actually pretty annoying until 6:40min but gets a little more interesting then.

This video gets interesting at 2:20min

LOL!

Yeah I have some airsoft guns - which are not toys, and they will go thru some aluminium cans. They are fun & cheap to shoot with, but there are better ways & "weapons" to go "plinking" with.

So I also have co2 powered guns. Rifles are also available.
These are a lot better than airsoft, are more realistic in weight, are more powerful (between 360 and 500 ft p/sec velocity), more accurate and are also based on the manufacturers' actual firearm - made under licence.
For example I have a Walther CP99, based on the P99 (the Bond pistol from Tomorrow Never Dies). The CP99 is a superb co2 pistol, and very well made... in Germany. ;)

My son just took part in an Airsoft exercise with real Humvee's and a Helicopter ( I think it was just on the ground) with about 150-200 people. It was about 4 hours long and everyone shot a lot of BB's and spent a lot of money. He has 4 guns but if you want to see what everyone is talking about go to http://www.airsoftextreme.com and look at some of the weapons. I am not affiliated with them at all but they get a lot of my money. Who spends $700 on a BB gun for his 12 year old and yes, it was modded to 420 fps. This is really big business and I was quite amazed at what is available. He now wants a midsize Spec-Ops watch to go with his "war" gear so if anyone has any suggestions..I am open to them.

Can someone please explain the point of these?

I dunno if they were first meant as toys or training equipment. The high quality ones are now used by law enforcement and military forces as training devices. They have the same size and weight as the "real steel", but won't harm when used with eye-protection.
Real airguns have the bad side-effect, that they will hurt the target.

My guess that the biggest market for these are people who want to feel like special forces but who don't want to get through the tough training (if they could) or risk of getting kia.
Pretty obvious.

and, it is fun..
and yes, both military and law enforcement, including fbi use them for training

as for why civilians, besides fun?? lol.. people golf, bowl, do archery, race cars, get piercings, rock climb.. why people do things at all?

and some people collect counterfeit watches.. go figure..

and of course, some people collect full auto weapons, knives, small arms of all kinds, just in case, and is normal that 'case' never ever happens..

lol

The first time I saw these was back in the 80's. I was working at an indoor shooting range and we were one of the excursion packages on a Japanese tour package. They came to our range to shoot real firearms because we rented everything from, .38 specials to the MP5SD. Well one of the guys had 2 or 3 Japanese gun magazines and everything in it was airsoft. They offered just about any firearm you could think of, pistols, military stuff, even Remington 700 bolt guns. As new as some of the really nice airsoft stuff is in most places, there is nothing new about it. I was stunned, but in a country that just flatly does not allow firearms I can understand it.

The problem with this amo is that you use it with real guns, right? A mistake about the wrong clip (red one instead of blue tape) for example can have uncomfortable results to your comrades.

But you're definately right, the simunition is the common training equipment (next to laser markers... etc)

here is an interesting discussion I found in my research:

Yes the simuntions require a simunition barrel.

Interesting.
The rubber bullets we used at the german forces 4 to 5 years ago, required just the same 5.56mm / 7.62mm barrel as the live bullets. Our only security were "blue" (safe) and "red" (not so good) tapes around the clips.
Needless to say we were not shooting at each other but training urban warfare and stuff like that on silhouette targets.

For skirmish stuff we had the Klinki Miles system...

The simunitions is a good option The bullets areactually soapand wash off easily. the hurt like the dickens I caught one point blank in the bicep and it left a mark for months.
The Miles system is good but leaves tghe bang bang element out and the simuntions actually is subject to the wind and other elemets like a bullet might be. It also showa hits on walls to trace where you might be close and is easily scored by supervisiors.

I have a box of blue and red i bought for $40.00 if anyone wants both for $30.?? for both? I have no need for it and gave up the sidearmwith the barrel. i bought it for fun target practice for my cousins in from Italy. it would have to be a US sale. Bullets in the mail at customs is a no no.

I'll stick to the real thing.

I have a couple I picked up on Amazon for under $20 a piece. We shoot cans in the office with them (using a pellet trap). I am amazed at the quality of some of them. I have a desert eagle that i paid $17 for and it weighs about 24 ounces and uses magazines that are made of metal. Amazing really.
