Very interesting read.
While the Chinese government condemns the replica market they clearly allow it to flourish.
One example of this is my experiences at the Shanghai fake market - there are police all around yet it is easy to find whatever you're looking for.

As far as pricing is concerned I see prices all over the place in Shanghai as well as on Aliexpress - for the same thing.
