Hey guys,

I received my watch two days ago and unfortunately it's DOA. The mainspring seems to wind, but the balance doesn't seem to be getting any power; it will wobble about if I give it a small jet of compressed air, but then stops; seconds don't advance at all during the "wobble" it does have in it.

Any advise? Is there something that commonly "jumps out" of place in transit? I'm pretty happy to open her up and play around with it so anyone's suggestions would be great.

Dirt or broken balance staff is my best guess... But after disassembly that would be clear. Never make assumptions before analyze...

Hi pasiz, how would you diagnose a broken balance staff? Will it be obvious when looking at it?

Will it be best then to send this back to my TD to get repaired? I wanted to try and avoid this but if it's abit complicated, then probably best I leave it to them.

All fixed. After dismantling the gear train the fourth wheel? (The one that touches the escapement wheel) had a blob of dirt blocking one of the teeth, which meant when it got to the pinion on the escapement wheel it jammed.

All sorted and running perfectly now, thanks.
