A question about our modders

Hi guys,

I have a question about one of our modders. I've sent a watch to Uwe where he had to replace a stem and attach a crown on the stem, as it had fallen off.

Well it's been almost 2 months now and I am just wondering is it normal that it takes this long?? I have e-mailed him but my last 2-3 emails have not received any response. In my opinion I have in no way "pumped" him with emails, so I would see no reason for him to "blacklist" me or anything.

Also I am aware that he is probably very busy and I am in no way criticizing him or anything, I am sure Uwe will deliver sooner or later. I am just wondering if anyone of you guys have a watch with him (or have had recently), and how long has it taken to get it fixed?

I guess I should be more patient, as always in the rep game :) but it's the first time I send my watch to a modder so I am not aware of how long it actually takes. Excuse me for my ignorance.

Again, I really hope no one thinks I in any way want to trashtalk Uwe, he's been replying on most on my initial emails and there have been no issues whatsoever (!!) I really want to point this out. This is in no way anything agains uwe, it's just a question to learn how this usually works and whether anyone else that has theirs watch with uwe had to wait as long as me? :)

Thank you guys!

I have no experience with the modder in question but i've seen a fair few threads where people have sent stuff off and not received reply's due to the person being busy or not able to work for whatever reason. If nothing happens in a week or two I would pm a mod and get the ball rolling so you know what's going on and with your watch.

Hopefully some more experienced members can chip in here as I don't know an awful lot!

Yeah I've read somewhere that Uwe is busy, but that post was from like January or something. I think someone who deals with him more regularly than I do might know? :)

I read some similar things over on RG. Get ahold of a mod. No communication is no good. I've waited months and months for stuff to get done but always got responses from the guys doing the work right away.

I think this is pretty normal for most modders. People send them tons of watches. Most of them don't mod watches as a full time job. Even the pros like CLS can sometimes be overwhelmed with the work. If you are going to have a watch modded then I'd say patience is a virtue. I've got a few watches with another modder from here and he has finally got one (largish) job done after about 3 months. I would simply plan for that amount of time.

I can't read the link. I don't have a membership there, for some reason they did not want to let me get an account over there.

Maybe someone can sum it up what it says, or copy paste? thanks!

Yeah I suspected that as well. That's why I thought it might be a good idea to see with you guys what the process is :) I guess I will just wait a little bit more then, even though it's becoming a little frustrating without any response whatsoever :p

Hmm.. I might just do that. Do you recall what it said over on repgeek? Was it specifically about uwe or our modders in general?

Thanks

One post:

Do yourself a favor: Don't deal with Uwe/FineDD/Sweetwatches I've seen several posts describing problems with this modder but it's worth repeating - if you don't want to loose hundreds of $$$s stay clear of this guy!

I've sent him my AP Diver sometime last summer, received it with major problems, the watch didn't run, the hands were bent, dial scratched, etc, so i sent it back, took several months till i got it back only to find out it had almost all of the same problems. I was promised i'd get it back in January, now it's April, Uwe doesn't answer PMs here or on RWI, emails stay unanswered, so it's clear to me i'm out about $500.

Like i said, think twice before sending him anything other than maybe a crystal! He should no longer be a trusted modder anywhere!

Another:

This is not the first time I hear of Uwe's misguided ventures into watchmaking, and a few photos I've seen here and on the other forums showing his workmanship look like nothing more then of an amateur trying his hand at various things...except he is charging market rates for him "mods" while damaging other people's (precious) watches in process... and then even manages to get away with not responding to his customers for months to no end. I think he come into this bus via AR service which I am sure he was simply a middle man for and probably saw a good opening to make $$$$ off desperate rep collectors looking to get works done in the EU. Agree that he needs to be kicked off the boards - but only after he paid off what he owns to his pissed off customer base. What a shame!

And another:

Same experience here!
Three watches (Big Pilot,Fiddy and franken SA) were all pure crap once I got them back.
His reply: nothing!!!!
So I think he isn't just a bad modder, he's a bad person, too!

And another:

Same problems for me too

Personally, I know nothing about him. But he hasn't made any effort to rebut anything said above. My guess is he's going to soon become and ex-modder on several forums.

What a shame! Can't believe it. I just hope I get my watch back.... and of course everyone else who has their watch with Uwe.

Yeah, he will probably only be an ex-modder on the forums as of soon. Again, what a shame....

btw, thanks for the synopsis and keeping me updated KBH

Any update about Uwe? I just read on another forum that a customer send him his watch "a few weeks ago" and just got it back. He has had mine now for a few months, and not weeks. Still no replying on emails. Someone that has any more info?
