Well, I've decided that I'm going to have a little selection of dress watches. Going to get a nice 4 watch box and keep that as my fancy watches :p So far I have decided on 3 of them.

1: Breguet - Heritage Tourbillon

2: A. Lange & Sohne - Lange 1

3:Sinn 6100

I'm having difficulty choosing between these two IWC models, but erring towards the version with the power reserve.

4: IWC Portuguese

Any thoughts or recommendations? I really wanted to have a Patek in there but really amn't persuaded by any of them.

One of my favorite dress watches.

I like everything you've chosen. Not an ugly watch in that group. But being the Breitling aficionado that I am, the Flying B deserves a slot ! :)

It's pretty much made for dress wear. As much as I love my big breits, they are tough to wear with a suit. This is slicker and elegant.

How about a JLC or VC? I'll try and find a suitable one and post it later.

The JLC reverso hand wind skeleton is quite a nice watch.

There has been much discussion about the Portuguese. Running seconds at 6 issues. There are fixes for it (graphite, or quartz--if the latter is an option) just as with the Daytona. Just sayin'.

I guess the best option is to just not go for one with seconds at six then?

You can buy one, sure. But you should expect the movement to crap out earlier than one without that feature unless it is modified or serviced accordingly, based on what I've read.

The running seconds at six function requires automatic movement modification to an ETA; this is done in house by IWC and others. Others build their own movement, of course. I don't know anything about Rolex, but they would likely be in the latter group.

There's new ones out that don't use the 7750 but use the Asian UNITAS-6498 hand-winding movement instead.

The first IWC i posted with running seconds at 9 just says 21,600 automatic movement, but the power reserve is functional. The second one with seconds at six is the Unitas movement. I don't mind it being hand wind as these would be one night / function / meal out kinda watches

I never really paid attention to the Ballon before tonight, but I like it:
