A chronicle of my final PureTime purchase

PureTime has been my go-to dealer since I joined here. I've placed 5 orders with them totaling about $4k.

I just had to share my latest experience.

On an order that I placed at the beginning of January, they forgot to send several of the parts that I ordered. After waiting the several weeks it took for the package to arrive, I contacted them immediately when I found that there were parts missing. I would have thought they'd offer to send the parts they had forgotten, but instead asked me if they could include them the next time I placed an order. I reluctantly agreed to this.

Shortly thereafter, the CNY break was upon us. During that time I decided on my next order and waited until they were back. And then their website went offline. When Angus posted here on the forum that they were still taking orders via email, I sent an email to try to order 3 new watches and also to ask them to include the parts I was owed. After a few days I received a reply that I had to wait for the website to come back up first. I saw that many people here on RWI were successful in placing orders over email, so I didn't understand this, but waited for the site to come back.

Finally the site returns and I check stock on my watches and then place my order on the website. I get my payment instructions and send my payment. A couple days go by and I get a message that one of the watches isn't available, they don't know when it'll be available, and would I please pick something else. I inform them that there is unfortunately nothing else I'm interested in at the moment and I would like that portion refunded. They accept and say that it is their policy to not make the refund until after the remainder of the order ships. No problem.

Over the next 4-5 days I received the QC pics for the other two watches, which I accept, and also reply with reminders about the other parts from my previous order to include (they requested I do this). I get QC pics of the first part which I accept. After waiting a few more days I ask for an update on the remaining parts. They ask me to please be patient as they still haven't sourced them.

After 2 weeks had passed, I asked them to please update me on my order. At this time I get an email saying "We completed your order and sent QC pics for the parts and you replied "Do not ship" so tell us what is wrong with the parts." To this I replied that I had received no such QC pics, and had sent no such reply. I said that if they had any email such as this from me to please forward it to me. To this I get a reply "We have discovered our colleague sent the pics to the wrong person, we will send them to you shortly." I finally receive the pics, OK them, and ask them to please ship the order.

The glorious day arrives that I receive my ship confirmation and tracking number. A couple days go by so I inquire about my refund. They reply "May I have your paypal account address so that we can refund you immediately?" so I send it to them. Several more days go by with no refund, so I send another request for an update on the refund. To this I receive "Sorry, the money in our account is not enough, we need to collect more money to refund."

And this is where I stand as of now. While I doubt anyone has actually read this novel of a post, I wanted to share with you my experience and sheer incredulity over this debacle. Needless to say, they have lost my business forever. There are too many TD's here that provide vastly superior service.

That's a clusterf*ck bud. I hope you get your money that you're owed. If not, talk to a Mod about further assistance. I have my own dealers and never really planned on using PT, but this furthers assures me that I was wise in not using them.

What bothers me is the "not enough money in paypal" bit. Really? They're one the largest dealers across this forum and RG.

My condolences

I know I'll get the money. I don't think any members should doubt that PureTime are truly reputable. They are. I just think their service leaves much to be desired.

I should note that this refund is for a $568 Audemars Piguet rep, not some inexpensive POS, so it's not an insignificant amount of money that I'm waiting on.

The not enough money in paypal kinda makes sense. With all the risk of the paypal account being frozen, they probably remove the money weekly. This would minimize the amount of money that would get trapped in paypal. With that said, they could probably get your refund within a day.

Sorry about your troubles. I have yet to find a favorite TD. I have contacted most of them about placing an order, but have only ordered from 3 of them. Every order had some issue, but nothing major.....yet.

I hope they get you your refund and everything you ordered arrives safely.

I have been watching ,with a raised eyebrow, for the last several months ,more and more of these kind of issues involving PT....admin at RG stepped in for similar type concerns and the members were sorted, so I think Angus( Angus is who brobert talked too) is trying to keep his place on the forums....

I read the, "novel"...thanks for sharing this, and I hope you get that refund. Meanwhile, although I've never purchased from PT, my confidence about this TD is beginning to lapse at a time when I was considering sourcing a Breit strap from them...but of course, I can't cause the site has been down.

Hey I don't normally post on the forums but wanted to say that I've ordered a few items from puretime and have had good service and luck but recently the site has been down quite a bit only live sporadically. Maybe they are having some issues. Unfortunately in business, things change rapidly. A company that is doing well and very viable can suddenly go down for various reasons especially if there are alot of other competitors which now there are. Also with the regulatory situations, a company like that can go under pretty much over nite I would assume b/c of te high risk... I hope u get ur funds back. Best of luck bro

problem is clear
Pt has lots of business , they are behind in orders and their website is not working properly,
now the problem is : HE DOESN'T WANT TO LOOSE SALES , SO THEY TAKE ALL THE ORDERS AND DO A POOR JOB DOING IT

the right way to do it , would be , first fix everything and after everything is organized then start the sales again .

I've never used PT and decided long, long ago I never would.
The aggravation and poor communication isn't worth saving $5-10 per watch.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
WBK
Narikaa
BKLM
Hont
... and this new Ryan Wayer seems good.

That's a great short list of dealers. Rarely do you hear of any complaints from these guys.

AGREED! but the refund problems date back to Nov. of 12....seems like a money management problem too...... but that's total speculation.... :thud:

I can't praise Toro highly enough at the minute. If unsure order from him.
Other TDs are available.

i dont know angus but looks like he cares and he loves watches , the problem is the people working for him

i order from hont all the time , so i do business with him directly, that is how i like it , do the watch business with only one person , if ANGUS was the only one selling and doind the customer service PT would be better

I had to issue a chargeback with my bank when I ordered from Puretime through a credit card. Long story short, the refund was seemingly never issued by PT and after about 3 months of waiting I had no option but to go to my bank to issue the chargeback. Will never use PT again and would recommend through my experience to use the other great dealers like Toro.

If we have a high amount of complaints against a TD on this forum do the MODs give them some type of talking to? I dealt with BkLM he has to be one of the most trustworthy sellers I ever met. Wbk was good Narikaa was good. As for Hont, PT and Jackson, It was very hard to communicate with the first 2 the last one was just a waste of my time. Besides bklm if I want a watch from now on I try to get it form a forum member and if I can't I just wait for it. No need for aggravation.

Wow I'm surprised that everyone seems to have had trouble with PT b/c I must be one of the few lucky ones to have dealt with them and have had positive experiences. Purchased 2 Pams and 1 IWC and all three arrived within 2 weeks. But that was all last year though. Maybe things have went downhill since then...

I ordered a Ceramic GMTII, black Explorer II 42 mm and a DSSD, three common and popular watches you would imagine they sell tons and tons of. It still took two weeks from payment was drawn from my credit card until I received QA pics for the DSSD. I know reps are a waiting game, but that's ridiculous.
