We were talking about our watches some gens, some reps. Both of us have a gen breitling. But then I told him about me gaining interest in a couple of AP reps. Both of us make a pretty solid living nothing to lavish. We can afford nice things. So he says would u buy a watch that people would clearly say thats a rep. If I sported a 50k AP GP replica people that knew watches would know immediately. Now this is just for discussion. I am 50/50 on it. I mean most of us here could probably afford a nice breitling or a panerai but when you get up into the AP's some of the IWC's etc etc. 10k and above watches. How do u guys feel about it. If you cant really afford it dont try. Or who cares its a watch and you like the style. Again I dont really care either way just something to talk about on this rainy day down in Texas.

i just wear whatever i want (albeit so far only pam reps) and i never ever get called out. i mean if you own stupendously expensive watches you'd probably wouldnt give it away for inspection to some tom dick or harry!

There is a lengthy thread dedicated to whether you'd wear a rep that you cannot feasibly afford.

Opinions are split. I prefer to stay in half reasonable reps.

Hopefully you were not golfing in the rain :D:

I say buy whatever watch you like and don't worry about any gen pricing or stigma attached to it. Be your own person, exude confidence on and off the golf course and the wear the great smell of Brut.

Buy and wear any watch you prefer and keep them all guessing

Haha Brut. Yes I tend to agree. I broke it down like this. You can spend 1-200 dollars on a Gen Crap Fossil. Or spend 3-500 on a great rep with functioning chronos and a nice movement. And most people in this world if its a nice watch they will say hey thats a nice watch. They wont say OMG is that a panerai or what not.

In my opinion it depends on your honesty about the rep. If you are the person that claim your rep is a gen, I wouldn't personally go for a rep so expensive, that owning it is unrealistic. On the other hand, if people ask, and you come clean about the rep thing, just go with the watch you want.

I stop at 5K Gen value. It's just my preference. I feel that's the maximum I could afford.

Same as driving cars. I have a friend who owns a few auto dealerships. I could borrow an R8 or Panamera, but I'm pretty uncomfortable with those. I usually settle for an A5.(3.2 of course  )

Buy and wear whatever the F you want. Now if you have others lauging at you because you choose to wear a $200,000 watch, drive a Ford Pinto, live in a motel, and go bowling then its your own fault for being so stupid.

Sub, I get where you are coming from, but how many people on the street where you live would recognize a $200,000 watch?

In the 15+ years teaching golff, I have never seen a Hub or AP ever in the wild. I have honestly seen maybe 10 PAM's.

I have seen tons of Rolex, IWC and Omegas.

I wear whatever I want. I live Ina very hot climate so I'm usually out in shorts and t shirts. I like to play with big toys so I prefer to drive a truck that can haul kayaks and other big items. Anyone who assumes I can't afford an expensive watch because I'm not wearing an armani suit and driving an Audi is the one with the problem, not me. I like so MANY different styles of watches I prefer to buy reps since I can enjoy them all without spending 100,000 a 200,000 dollars on what is honestly a completely unnecessary luxury.

Ask yourself this, how do you think the majority of the population (including yourself) would feel if they saw a 16year old working at McDonald's wearing a Rolex YM? My money would be on that most people would be thinking "what a d**k, thinks he's the man....wearing his 10dolla canal street crap" (or words to that effect). Anyways, point is that, people who know watches would probably be thinking the same about you when seeing you with your "20k AP." Now I know a lot of members say 'I dont give a shit about what others think' but it doesn't change the fact that people will judge you for wearing what they perceive to be cheap a 'canal street' reps. They won't say anything to your face but they will 'know' and judge. Guess you have to work out whether you care about being judged for wearing 'cheap crap.' It might not be appropriate attire at your work place wearing 'cheap crap'? Could this affect your career progression if people think you buy cheap, ILLEGAL replicas?
