5980 is finally here

IMHO this rep is really very disappointing. The movement is just a decorated movement and the positions of bridges and plates are completely different. 5726 PPF in comparison is much much better and with all functions. Here we don't know if the chrono function is real or only small seconds, with fake buttons. I understand that it could be a first step, but there is already the ref. 5968 aquanaut chrono with the same movement. 2 mm thicker is really too Michel for the proportions of the case of this watch. I saw the 5968 rep OMF, really terrible, a metal box. Let's hope it's very successful and there are other versions. I won't take this one.

Up until the ppf v2 5712 it was only really the "date only" pateks that had "clone" movements, I'm not sure when a rep having a fully clone movement (especially a 5980 with a flyback chrono) became a minimum requirement, especially from a v.1. If someone is up close enough to see the movement of your watch and understands the intricacies of the movement enough to call you out on wrong bridge positions, They will know its a rep already...

The finishing for me will always the biggest tell on a rep movement, especially when comparing to the quality of Patek or AP. Agree with you on the case dimension, that 2mm additional thickness completely changes the silhouette of this watch. But again, for a v.1 of a watch that had never been repped by this factory before, its a decent base to work from. As with most reps for any improvements to be made Chinese factories need to see demand, so only way to improve this rep is by people buying it. Hopefully that happens!

Completely understand people being disappointed but I do think expectations have been skewed massively by the progress seen in particular references.

I should add that of course the primary factor is whether the chrono functions as gen or if the chrono buttons are faux. Fingers crossed it is a fully working chrono

My TD told me that all chrono functions go as in the original and that even if it is a decorated mechanism no function is fake. Do you have any other news? Are there any videos on WeChat?

The movement is a 7750, so arguably the chronograph must work otherwise why use 7750?
Also the genuine is 13mm thick as far as I remember and this rep is listed as 14mm.

Also i believe on this genuine there is no active seconds hand. The long seconds hand should be at the 12 o'clock position until you press the chronograph. Then the large seconds hand starts moving for seconds.

Ok I meant to say had screws for adjustment on the bracelet. And after a quick research it seems some yarn models had the screws for adjustment on the bracelet but not all model years for the genuine.

When I look the photos of this 14mm for me is an hamburger, maybe not a double hamburger like the previous 3kf of 16mm. I enjoy so much the 5711 of 8,3 mm that it's perfect on the wrist, anyway watches are like Saint, everyone has his devoted

you are comparing apple and oranges, the gen 5980 is also a hamburger... 12,2mm, i don 't have one personally but a friend of mine does and this doesn't wear like a 5711 at all... this is more is the family of the 5726 in term of style....

The 5980 is the thickest of all Nautil. The slight more thickness of the rep does not bother me much. For me I want to see the chronograph function and know if the long second hand remains stopped at 12 o'clock until you press the chronograph button

I'm very tempted to order this. I still would like to know about the seconds hand at 12 o'clock. We need a video of this!!

I sent an email to puretime today asking about the long seconds hand and if it stays at 12 o'clock until the chronograph button is pushed. Let's see if they can give an accurate answer. I also asked for a video of the functions but we know they don't keep stock of each piece so she would have to ask PPF to send her a video I suppose. I will report back when I have a response.

What dial color did you go with? I’m quite fond of the white dial and really like PPF’s 5711 white dial.

Ordered the black dial, since I need a black dial Patek for rotation. Although this black dial appears greyish in some ways. I have PPF 5726 in white dial and it is a great color. Don't hesitate to order this one as well!
