The birth of the modern Submariner.

In 1959 Rolex released the Ref. 5512. Submariner and in 1962 released the Ref. 5513 submariner. Both submariners now sported the big crown and had "shoulders" to protect the crown. The difference in reference numbers was that the Ref. 5512 was certified as a chronometer while the Ref. 5513 was not. These watches both had water resistance rating of 200 meters. Unlike the early Submariners, the Ref. 5512 and 5513 had long production lives. The 5512 remained in production for nearly twenty years, until 1978, while the 5513 stayed in production till 1990.

Good info Q5?... Would also like to add that early 5512's were not chronometer certified and had only 2 lines of print rather than 4 due to this. Not known how many but a few are out there!

I'd love to revive this thread. I just got an MBK 5513 and am starting to make parts acquisitions to mod it. I'd love to see what other owners have done to get some inspiration. I'll post step-by-steps once the parts start rolling in!

Guys i need help. Im not familiar with this model Rolex 5512. But i have a watch supplier which is offering this to me. Is this a gen? He mentioned that the dial has been changed? and all parts are original, have already been verified with rolex center. He's definitely someone i can trust but just checking. cos he also bought it off someone else. Also how much does this piece fetch? I doubt it comes with the bracelet box and papers tho. just the head only.

The pearl is definitely not gen. Renault looks really works and the case looks far too new if I'm honest.

This is a Gilt dial right? So the 4 lines should not be al in gilt paint only the first two lines. Think dial is aftermarket yuki or something. Crystal is wrong, insert stinks, case is nice but looks like new phong/yuki or something.
Watch case has lack of "blood, mud, beer" age marks concerning its age :D:
