Some differences:
- The lines are deeper in gen vs 3KF
- The hands are better polished in gen
- The silver that surrounds the dial numbers are finished in better detail
- The print of the logo is more fine in the gen
- Dial looks bit more brown in gen
- Date font tiny bit thicker in gen
- The romboids have this 3D effect from the lume that is more prominent than 3KF
- Crown is in gen is tiny bit shorter
- The case shape is quite good, except 3KF has those angles on the side that can be easily matched by further polishing
- The rubber is big difference, gen is more rubbery whereas 3KF more of a plastic feeling

Overall 3KF did a great job, hard to tell these differences unless you have both of them compared side by side with a big loupe.

Thanks, this is great comparison. How old is the gen? If you can post pictures comparison of the movement and clasp, that would be great to complete the comparison!

Lovely comparison details. How does the case thickness compare? It would be useful to also distinguish the respective movements and clasps as well.

I’ve read before about the „wrong case shape“ which was also mentioned here with the „angles on the side“ would you or somebody else mind explaining this a little more pre just post a pic with a circle around the issue? Would really appreciate it.

You cant really tell it good on those pictures but the 8 edges are a bit sharper on the bezel. Maybe compare pictures on td site that are showing the watch centred with better light. But as you can see this isn’t really anything you would notice on wrist distance without a gen for comparison

Great post and comparison. I bought the 3KF V3 last year and what I notices is that the lime is much more green than on your pics. My questions. are the latest batches indeed more white or is it the light while shooting the pics? I modded mine with the SW dial, DW and hands which makes it for me a great watch. Only step next to to is buy a gen strap. This is such a difference with the 3KF or in my case I swapped it with the ZF strap.

The V3 comes with updated lume and new clasp. Yours is most likely not V3 if that's the case.

Dial side up, it looks pretty close for an out-of-the-box rep!

Is it just the photos or are the bezel proportions and overall shape a bit different on the 3KF? It looks a tad larger than the gen in all of the photos.

As others have mentioned, are you able to comment on the thickness and share photos of the clasp?

Great comparison! I’d says the dead giveaway to me has got to be the crown guards and crown.

The bezel shape is definitely different as well, but would be tough to tell without comparing next to a gen.

I would say 3KF makes a nice go of it! This one has since been sold, but I’m contemplating picking up another one.

Can you help and tell me when this update was released???
Bought also a V3 from
Jtime, but already in November 2023 and it already had the new buckle/clasp but the lume is also very greenish…?

Is this a green ZF strap ?

Visually, the most apparent difference is indeed the strap. The small rectangle sections are more sharply angular in the 3KF. Can anyone post pix of the ZF strap that is supposed to be closer to gen? I would pay the upcharge to swap out the 3KF strap is it is softer and more gen like. I have handled the gen--it is quite satisfactory :) But not next to my 3KF. V3.

Also, can you discuss clasp differences?

Below is a link to the BuyStrap ZF version of the strap. To my eye, the rectangular shapes within the strap are indeed a bit softer than the 3KF version. I also perceive more space between each rectangle, more like gen.

This ZF supposed to be softer than the 3KF--but as supple as gen??

I'm going to correct myself--so please don't tell my wife!

I went to the Philippe Patek site and looked up the listing for the gen 5167a. When new, the gen strap's rectangular areas are indeed more rectangular than the slightly rounded look of the used gen pictured at the top of the thread. That strap has some wear on it.

I tried on the gen at my AD a couple months ago and took a photo of it. Will post gen picture next.

This is a GEN 2024 of the PP 5167a.

It gives a good look at the shape of the rectangles within the gen strap. Notice how they taper

Wish my AD would have had a couple Martinis at lunch. Perhaps he would then have let me walk home with it at list price :)

Bad news, pal. I did an alignment for you and everything is totally fucked. Plus the date is a little low. This is an obvious RL. Now back to Reddit I go. BYE BYE.
