I was talking with my good friend Ron over at IW inc. and he emailed me a picture of one of his new designs.
I have always be intrigued by the Blancpain 50 Fathoms but I doubt we will see it repped real soon as I do not think they would ever be able to get the bezel and the case/dial/bezel dimensions correct.

He has come out with a sterile version of the 50 Fathoms.. Understand he is not replicating the exact style,, but it is safer to say the style was "influenced" by the 50 Fathoms look.

Care to give me your thoughts on it's look? I am debating on purchasing one.. not sure what I will do. He also has this available in PVD too.

My personal preference is the model on the left.

I like them both, but my overall impression is very austere almost to the point of being plain. Maybe a red tip on the second hand arrow would liven things up a bit? Or one of those nifty "No Radiation" symbols at 6?? Hard to say, it feels like something is missing.

I can't tell from the pic, but is there a curvature to the bezel inserts on these? I don't know about you, but the rounded ceramic look to the gen inserts is one of the features that makes them appealing to me personally, along with just the 5-minute markers between 15 and 60.

As a fifty fathoms homage, I think I prefer the MKII Stingray cybee posted.

edit: dang, I just saw the build your own custom Stingray page. Now that is sweet.

Not bad, I think the nicest hommage to the BP FF is the Precista PRS-50, it's a handsome beast;

Check Davidsen's section.

I have no idea if the dimensions are correct, though.

Not as plain as the homage of the Mill Divers version.

I do hink this goes back to the homage/rep thing. It doesn't have the name thus you can't impress anyone with it thus people will not be interested. At least not most rep buyers.

I rather like the "sterile" ones from IWI, except for 1 thing. The dials look funny to me with the print at 6 o'clock and nothing at 12 o'clock. It needs to say *something* on the dial at 12. I could care less if it says Blancpain or not, but it needs to say something. Completely ruins the balance of the dial, IMO.
