Hello folks,
Does anyone here have a PPF 5811 that they could share some photos or information about? I am in the market for a 5811 as the larger size works better on my 7.25" wrist, and I am trying to gauge which is the better buy - the 3KF or the PPF. Going through all available info on RWI, I see that a few members have bought the 3KF and have modded it with WG plating, Buff dials/ hands etc. - these mods actually look pretty good, though I wonder if it would be possible to fit the same dials / hands to the PPF?

Note the only reason I know the PPF version exists is from QC photos I came across of it on Redditt. I have attached a photo comp of the 3KF, PPF & Gen below.

3KF case is 41 mm wide and ca. 8.3 mm thick for sure. Idk PPF case is how about it. PPF lugs are more gen like. If you are into anal mods then PPF rep may be a slightly better base, however I'm not sure if the existing custom dials, hands and DWs fit the decorated Miyota movement. I'd say nope (for at least one part), so a movement swap might be necessary.

Agree about the lugs. I also think the bezels might be just a touch more gen-like on the PPF. And the crown is definitely better and more recessed as well.

Hard to tell from the photo below, but the PPF looks like it might be a hair thinner and closer to the 8.2mm thickness of the gen - although they are both similar enough that I don't think it will make much of a difference.

Good point about the movement. I've WhatsApp'd Popup to ask him if it is possible to source and mod the PPF with the Buff dials/hands/DW. Awaiting his response.

I'd be surprised if the PPF case was thinner than 8.5 mm because of the decor plates but who knows...

from what we see on your photos, both are definitely wrong and deserve serious mods ....
but to me the ppf wins hands down....
both cases are deserving serious reshaping on the bezel and mid case so equal here.
mid case wise ppf is better and easier to reshape imo....

Assuming the photo I posted is truly showing an actual PPF and it's not just a mislabelled 3KF, I agree with you (particularly with respect to the bezels).

That said there could be a multitude of things at play here; different lenses / distances etc. could be having an impact on what we are seeing here.

One thing however that is currently in favour of the 3KF is the possibility to change the dial. Popup confirmed to me today that only the 3KF is able to receive the Buff dial, and from photos the Buff dial seems like a major improvement over both of these stock dials (a review of the PPF here on RWI noted the dial was basically the same one they put on the 5711 and nowhere close to the colour of the 5811).

For a 5811 and 5711 project you must start from the PPF base, 3kf versions have wrong proportions that cannot be fixed with a case rework.

Just stock. Thats the bliss when not down the Patek Rabbithole: Its absolutely flawless for me as a "I dont know a damn about those watches";)
Very true. 👍 Do you have a blue 5711? If so then how can you compare it with your stock 5811?

To me 5811 3k wins hands down over the ppf. I was lucking enough to see a gen 5811 and the dial is more similar to the 3k, while ppf is to grey… unless you look at it closely and most of us can’t see the difference in lugs etc….

I have both and have also tried on a 5811 a couple of times.

The PPF bezels are thinner and better than the 3KF, but the 3KF stock dial looks a bit better / less dark.

Pictured below is my stock PPF 5811 (left) next to a modded 3KF 5811 (right) with white gold plating, Buff dial/ hands & anniversary datewheel. Top image is taken during the day, with no indoor lighting. Bottom photo is taken next to the window on a cloudy day. 3KF case/ bracelet looks much whiter due to the white gold plating.

Another shot of both watches, this time under direct sunlight, showing the dial colour as best as I can to closely resemble what you would see.

In most other lighting conditions (particularly indoor with artificial lighting), the blue tones in both dials are not particularly visible, they both actually appear very dark (almost black). The PPF (left) is more grey-ish blue whereas the 3KF is even darker with more purple tones.

Wow, great comparison, thank you for sharing. I just got a 5811 3KF and very happy with how it looks and feels (bought it from andiotwatches). I spent roughly $550 with shipping etc. would you share what you spent for the 5811 3KF and what you ultimately spent to get it modded …just curious if you don’t mind sharing. I do wish my the dial was a bit more blue and closer to the gen.

I think all in it came to around $960, including the watch, the Buff dial/ hands, the date wheel, gold plating and refinishing etc.

The white gold plating is probably the thing that jumps out at me most when I see it in person. The dial just pops so much more against the case/ bracelet.

Well done it looks astonishing ….did you have it done locally or did you ordered it that way?

Ordered it that way. Couldn't find anyone to do it where I am in the UK and it would have been more expensive and riskier to mail it abroad and back.
