Just recently got this watch. Overall, really happy with it-replaced the bezel with a nice aftermarket dome bezel and 2.3mm gasket on the crystal.

Only thing that bothers me is the signature on the dial. Don’t like it. Would like to put a gen dial in, but not sure if that can be done with this movement. If there’s a better quality rep dial that can sit on the 2824, I’d be open to that.

Looking for suggestions to get a better looking dial into this watch.

Thank you, guys!

There aren't many better rep dials than the ones you can get from our TD's. Take a look at Rafflesdials, he has a good number of Datejust dials. I have used a couple of his - I wouldn't say they are better and maybe even not quite as good but they are easier to get than from a TD and cheaper and you may find something you like.

Something you need to be aware of when looking for replacement dials is ETA window position vs Rolex window position. The ETA native position is 1mm right of the Rolex position and some aftermarket rep ETA dials are made with the window in the ETA position. These do not require a datewheel overlay, to shift the numbers back to the left. Higher end good quality reps from TDs will have dials with the Rolex window position and a datewheel overlay to shift the numbers. Some vendors will tell you this specifically. Others like Raffles just say "with DWO" which doesn't mean you GET a Datewheel Overlay, but that the dial goes on a movement that HAS an overlay - the window is a Rolex window position.

A gen dial will fit the 2824 but you have to cut off the dial feet and grind/sand the stumps to flat. Then glue or solder new feet on at the ETA movement feet positions. This devalues the gen dial, so if you're OK with that it's a reasonably easy mod to epoxy new feet on. Soldering takes practice and skill which relatively few people have.

Thanks for the feedback. Raffles does have some good stuff, and I’ve bought a few other parts from him before-he’s good people. He was unable to provide better photos of his dials, though, so I’ve been hesitant to go that route. Looking for a simple, black stick marker dial with a good quality signature, and that is a detail that is often missed. Maybe I’ll do as you say with a gen dial if I can get a good deal on one. That would seem like the best bet.

Thanks again for the info and tips.

Member hanski did a great tutorial on soldering feet to dials. Ask him for a link to it
