Is the one you have pictured yours? It is a classic for sure and oddly enough way overlooked. I like how the dial turns brown and the insert turns blue, Hellacombo and unique foshow.
Fascinating. I was born in 1980, so a birth year sub might be in order. Thanks for the write up!
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it !
Very cool @tripdog. I've always wondered when the high beat came into play.
This is a fascinating thread! The 911SC of Subs, around the same time too...

A birth year Sub is a proud Sub indeed but you may wish to do a little homework on that one.
It was the 1680 Submariner that was in production in 1980: still a great looking Sub but pretty much a different animal altogether.
IE: Cal.1570 movement, matte finish dial with painted markers, bi directional non-clicking bezel and domed plexi...highly desirable model and the price reflects that.
All three were, yesThanks for the info. Weren't the 1680, 16800 and 5513 in production in 1980 though?
I'm not sure about the 5513 but as has been stated by the OP, the 16800 didn't makes it debut until sometime in '83.Thanks for the info. Weren't the 1680, 16800 and 5513 in production in 1980 though?
No, they weren't. unk:
Gloss dials with wg surrounds appeared in 83. 16800s with matte dials and painted indices debuted in 1979.I'm not sure about the 5513 but as has been stated by the OP, the 16800 didn't makes it debut until sometime in '83.
I did that 2 decades ago.
