Personally, I think Rolex was dumb as rocks to discontinue the 16610. The basic sub has been more or less the same for a long, long time. Yes, they added crown guards, yes they've tweaked it over the years. However the 116610 Sub-C is not even close to the same size/profile. To me, it's a whole different watch.
Look how long Rolex kept the GMT Master around, even after they had the GMT-II (I'm talking pre-ceramic). And this was just because the movements were different. I think Rolex will alienate a HUGE portion of their customer base. Clue: most of these older traditionalists are the ones with bank...who buy Rolexes! I just don't see the logic.
Notice how adidas still sells the Samba, Copa Mundial and Rod Levers, relatively unchanged, even though they have plenty of new models too? Yeah, pay attention Rolex.

Get the 16610. You'll have years to get the perfect Sub-C.
