Congrats for completing your goal and seeing it through to the end.

I can't understand why anyone would sink this much time and effort into a project like this. Considering these 116710LN's were easily purchased pre owned on TRF or Chrono24 for about $7000-$8000 USD for the last couple years and even cheaper beyond that. You haven't saved money going this route, the gen case alone can't have a cost factored to it as it would be impossible to purchase.

I'm thinking out loud trying to wrap my head around this.

Check your prices now, my friend. I also used to think this way. I remember seeing literally dozens of these selling on TRF and Chrono24, Watchuseek, and the other boards in 2008 to 2010 for $5,000 and $5,500 all day long. A high price was $6,000 and some sold below $5K. Not anymore. If you do a search right now after the discontinuation, the Kool Aid drinkers are selling these for $10,000 to $15,000. It's stupid. Absolutely stupid, and I guarantee that a price correction will happen. There's no effing way this watch is worth $15K. Millions of these have been produced and are circulating out there, and literally the majority of them were purchased for around $6K or so. It's just a matter of time before the next recession draws out the sellers and if their net cost is $6K or so, then anything above that is a profit when they are desperate for money and need to sell.

$4K seems really cheap to me for all of those gen parts and if you decide to sell later, the parts can all be extracted and sold at either no loss or slight profit. Gen parts are not declining in value. This actually has more value as parts than a watch, because a watch can vary in value on the open market but the parts themselves were acquired at cost. While you are holding onto the parts at least you can enjoy them in a completed watch. I am looking at vintage movements and I just saw a New Old Stock 3186 going for around $3,600 or so on Ebay.

Just my opinion.:)

He has a GEN 3186 in there. Right there this build is well worth $4k. Most of us might not do it, but it is not money wasted as the watch itself could be sold or broken up for parts and not lose much.

Imo 4k for this piece is totally worth it, especially with the gen 3186 which can last for years.

Not once did I say it was a waste of time nor a waste of money.

I did mention a couple of times that I am having a hard time understanding the point. It’s not an insult, compliment or a criticism, it just is.

I am obviously missing something.
