There is modding such as shaving crown guards and such and then there is this sort of ultra creative modding that makes for such an awesome rep. Keep in mind, this has no gen parts and it is simply badass. Alex, my hats off to you bud.....

Thanks all for the accolades. RWI has been an invaluable source of info and help, and it would not have been possible without the contributions of so many in this community.

That is an amazing build. The pearl alone is spectacular. I'm definitely waiting until you're actually offering the pearl to all the RWi members. Amazing. Great great work. Rolex should be afraid of you for how close to spot on your got.

Dumb question..... Just looking at Timeshop website and I have absolutely no idea which one is the noob factory one?

And there are 2x LV's. Which one was the one in this thread?

Help!

RO1320 is the Green bezel Ceramic Sub with the correct case. They claim this one has a gen ETA and looks like it, though it could be one of the new super clones.

RO1187 is the ceramic sub on the RWI list with a clone ETA. Make sure you get the clone ETA so the dial which match up to the ETA from the Green sub.

I did not try to swap crystals but I think (can't recall) that they may be different sizes.)

To Sum up what you Need:

From the Green Sub RO1320 you will use:
The case
The bracelet
The Crystal (have to relocate the Cyclops)
The Hands (or at least the hour hand which needs to be relumed)
The larger round markers from the green dial (it has green lume so they need to be lumed blue)

From the Noob RO1187 you need:
The Clasp (swap it out - two screw pins)
The ceramic insert (easy to get out if the crystal is out)
The Dial
The Crown (if you can get the stem out - noob has a better crown)

One could use the noob dial with out modding it, and just have the hour hand from the green sub lumed to match noob lume (watchlume mix of SB blue and Aqua Blue works great).

Stripping the lume from all the markers and hands and doing the pearl to match is worth the effort IMO. So is painting the base of the markers and pearl white gloss enamel (testors model paint). It makes the lume brighter with a slight whiter look too it which appears to be more gen-like. And the markers themselves will look a nice white in day light. This is important because if using luminova, or any bright blue lume, the markers get a kind of blue cast to them due to the intense glow in any nominal or low light situation (even indoors under fairly bright light I noticed this. I also painted the lume on the back of the hands after the lume dried. Just a light coat of white. It helps the hands keep up with the markers in intensity and I noticed from some lume shots of Genuine Ceramic Subs and the Deep Sea they don't exhibit the reflective glow from the back side of the hands like some older model Rolex watches did (often in lume shots you could see the dial illuminated from the glow of the hands). Tri-tec recommends the white background so I will assume Rolex is using that method now given the images I have seen.

Thanks DA! Without this tutorial I'd not have known where to start!

Both watches are on order now.... What's worse is I have started pulling down my PO as well....... Where will it end!?

Hey, noob questions:
* Can a gen crown be fitted, do you think? Or is that overdoing it?
* Would the crown tube also need to be changed?
* Is the LV's cyclops 2.5x?
* Removing the bezel, simple knife under it and rotate/lever? Or just heat the green and stick on the black without pulling it off at all?

Thanks heaps!

Yes on the Gen crown. Sometimes takes a different tube but after market tubes to fit gen crowns are $24 or so.

The LV if anything may be a little over 2.5x, not because of the size of the magnifier but due to the deeper rehaut or higher crystal position. (the closer to the dial the lower the mag, the further away the higher the mag.) I wouldn't worry about that aspect as it is close enough, you can tell in the picture of the Gen compared to the finished product.

The safest way is to remove the insert after pressing out the crystal. If you soak it with alcohol (I use a sprayer) it eats the glue allowing the bezel insert to spin and come out quite easily. I found this by cleaning the watch with alcohol and used a bit much and was shocked to find the bezel insert moving around as I wiped it down. (lets here it for happy accidents)

Awesome, thanks again for the tips!

Now for another ask, where do you get the crown tubes to fit the gen crown?

this is a great mod but tbh i wouldn't bother with a gen tube and crown personally. when you can tel its a rep by just looking at the dial. the ceramic sub is a great rep as i have one. and when they sort the dial im going to mod it but until then im happy as is.

DA and other Rollie experts! In the context of building best black ceramic sub (short of WM9).

What about this ceramic Sub (RO9485) on TS site: http://timeshops.net/8190-ro9485-rolex-submariner-black-ceramic-bezel-perfect-swiss-eta-2836-2.html

I hoped its rather the same as RO1320...but does not have 750 on the back so not sure if its the same case supplier as RO1320. It is just the same noob as RO1187 (minus RWI promo)?

I only ask because Robert (t4D) has indicated at repgeek that balck version of RO1320 is coming shortly. Alast we will have another better than noob option (WM9 and MBW notwithstanding)?
