111H or 177H? Based on best replica.

If you were deciding between the 111H and the 177H, and were looking for the closest to gen, which would you order and from whom?

I hear that Davidsen might have the best dials for both and they come lumed to match the hands, so that is a plus. Also I hear he sends them out with the improved cannon pinion and hour wheel.

I want to know about the crown and crown guard though. I don't think Davidsen sells them with the accurate crown and cg does he? Is it possible to get an accurate crown and cg for the 177H?
Who would I go to in order to get the most accurate crown and crown guard?

I guess that is about it. Also, what prices would I be looking to pay for the watch/mods?

Thanks.

I just received the Davidsen 177H and it is a great piece. The case, crystal, lume and dial are all pretty close to gen. The dial print has been discussed quite a bit on the Davidsen forum and the print may be a bit thin and close together compared to gen, but it's not bad. I owned a gen 176 last year and I don't see a huge difference. The AR on the crystal is perfect. My only gripes on the 177H is the fit of the crown guard not matching up to the case perfectly showing a gap at the top and bottom. Also, the top layer of the sandwich dial seems a bit thin compared to gen. A small gripe. Getting an unmodded watch and having the cannon pin fix, relume, changing out the crystal or having an AR put on it puts you in to $2-300 at a minimum. Others jump in here, but I would rather get the Davidsen and deal with the few issues in his watches.

From my understanding Davidsen sells the best dial though, so that would be the main consideration. Is this true?

davidsens sandwich dials r good, on his fiddys, vintage and h series (111/177).

I was tempted to grab a 177 after the 82 debacle, but I already owned a 177 and it was nice...really nice...I am almost considering buying another one. we will see.

but fyi, davidsens parts (mostly) only go on davidsen watches...some of his parts aren't interchangable and from what I've read they rnt 1:1...

What other options are there? I am a little overwhelmed/confused about all the different dealers, different mods, etc.

honestly if you want no hassle pam that lumes good, looks good, and has good feedback, get a davidsen.

or

get one from a dealer and have vac or ziggy mod it.

get a davidsen, its a good thing...like a 111h, 177h, or his awesome fiddy.

people havnt been complaining about either of these 3 so I am sure ull b more than happy with it.

Sounds good. From what I hear though, those who mod them still have to use a Davidsen dial as it is the most accurate available. If this is the case, I would probably just start with the Davidsen and fix the other problems afterwards. Is this correct?

I'm no paneraiologist, but I believe aside from extremely minor text spacing issues on the dial and the non sword (gen looking) swan neck, and possibly the crown guard (but for the most part they r nice) there is nothing else.

ill tell you this though, when davidsen makes newer stuff I doubt ull have any issues selling his older one or keeping it. plus if you get a solid caseback you won't have to worry about the swanneck.

Just get a 005 with closed caseback from David. The best out of the box Pam.

the lugs on his 44mm watches are too short and they don't like thick straps.

So it seems that these 111h and fiddyt are the best out the box. Anyone compare it to Ruby's ? I realise its not modded (but doesnt have pinn issue) but you then can get a ss bracelet, which I like.

I think you are going to need to wait until Davidsen releases his new upgraded 111H, which should be in a couple of weeks after Chinese New Year. Then you can make a better decision. I just received the new upgraded 005 from Davidsen and while the font and logo have been changed to the better, once again the numbers and dial markers are this sickning lime green, even when the dial is uncharged and also too thin, and the lume is wimpy. So this is going out directly to Vacuum for a relume with proper C3. This is the issue with all of his new sausage dials; completely incorrect number color and poor lume quality. The 177 does not suffer from this problem. When you see the number color on my 005 it is a dead give-away that it is a rep.

i ordered a upgraded, superlumed dial from him for my 195 and it is crap. the lume is still green and not very strong. all of the fonts and markings on the dial are very light compared to the original dial. they are not bold enough. vaccum told me that when he relumes these with c3 it still looks a mint green color. i would imagine it is because of putting it over the original green color and it isn't completely covering it. i also bought a custom made strap from walter straps and the lugs are so short the case chewed the strap up. it fits on my 113 just fine. there are just too many things about these watches that are unsatisfactory for me and that is why i am going to buy ruby's 111h and mod it, at least it will take a ss bracelet or a thick strap.

i just put mine in my watch box and left it. i haven't worn it since.

This sucks. Why is it so hard to get an accurate Panerai?

lol, that is a very good question because a 44mm pam is a very simple and uncomplicated watch.

I just got a Davidsen upgraded 111h/177h dial.....font is better, dial finish is nice, lume a bit weak for my taste...nothing a relume can't fix.

If you were going to build the best possible 111H/117H, what would you buy, from whom, and what would you mod?

yeah it really sucks....why cant they fix it to get a close rep...you know why.....because they have no reason to.....they sell tons of them as they are....the very few that know, see and complain...who cares ??
its like e-bay...mu buddy lives from e-bay...has 2800 feedbacks @ 99.9 %....but lots of problems with paypal....he writes ...suggests how to improve...you know what they do.....they dont give a flying fuc*,
because they have 1.3 - 1.5 million sales DAILY in the US and 10 Mio. worldwide...and no competetors....so...guess what ??
